"Beyond Beer" Ten years and still brewing ....and going beyond beer with this anniversary ale. It's a blend of Baggywrinkle and Whale's Tale, matured for one year in bourbon casks with strawberries to lend a bright fruitiness and vinious complexity, then cold-conditioned another year to bring the flavors together.

12.10.05 750ml treat, RLB YEHA-05 Pale golden, ruby-brown with small off-white head. Aroma does indeed have hints of strawberry and wood, plus some oxidation and fruity black tea. Flavor is more berries, barleywine-like oxidation, woody vanilla, and some booze. Retronasal alcohol is a bit harsh, but the stuff is still enjoyable (if weird).

Poured an amber color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of vanilla oak, dried fruits, an earthiness, and some caramel malt. Taste was fruity, but tart, strawberries, nuts, more caramel malt, and lots of vanilla oak, a faint presence of alcohol in the background.
