To give this beer a wonderful roasted flavor, we added unmalted, very darkly roasted barley. The roasted barley is mixed with a generous portion of chocolate colored malt giving the Blast Furnace Stout a beautiful ruby hue. We used our finest hops unsparingly to create a delicately balanced bitterness with a rich roastiness and fresh hop aroma. The East Kent Goldings hops were added with heavy hands at two different times. This unbridled addition grants a full hop flavor to our heavenly drink.

Brown around the edges with a good cream-colored head. There’s a nice roasty bloom, but it’s short. It’s tasty, but it needs more body.

I am sorry, but 30 IBU is just too much hoppiness for a stout! I just don't get it with this hop thing, especially when a stout is supposed to bring out the dark malt and other flavors that go with this brewing style. The tan to beige sudsy head leaves a good 1 1/2 inch top above the brownish musty body. (I also thought stouts were to be dark brown to black). Aromatic hop aromas with some toffee and caramel scents were found. A typical roasted malt character that is overridden by the hop tastes exists. I can't detect any of the usual chocolate or coffee notes that a stout produces. There are however some notes of syrup in the dry bitter hop finish. Is this a stout or a hopped up dark ale? Sorry CBW, I love you guys, but this wasn't my cup of tea (or brew!).

Pours with a definite black color and a thin tan head which dissipates. Flavor is very malty and burnt in the foretaste, sweet in the aftertaste. Notes are those of coffee, nuts and maybe vanilla - a complex brew, but well balanced. Body is actually a little light for a stout, but mouthfeel is pleasant and balanced. I've had better brewpub stouts, but this one is something of a classic in its own right.

A beautifully bottled, toasted, oatmeal stout. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, cream, and toasted oats. Nice bitter coffee flavor, some chocolate, lightly hopped. Awesome mouthfeel.
