Putting a twist on the classic Bavarian maibock, Cameron’s is using its signature rye malt to brew a unique German-style lager. Cameron’s Rye Bock is inspired from the classic Bavarian ‘maibock’ that was brewed to help ease the transition between long, cold winters in the foothills of the Alps and the blazing hot summers that followed. The style known now as “bock” was a dark, malty, lightly-hopped ale first brewed in the 14th century by German brewers in the town of Einbeck. The style from Einbeck was later adopted by Munich brewers in the 17th century and adapted to the new lager style of brewing. Due to their Bavarian accent, citizens of Munich pronounced “Einbeck” as “ein Bock” (“billy goat”), and thus the beer became known as “bock”. This golden-orange and medium-bodied bock is extremely smooth and rich in character. We selected German specialty hops, including Hallertau, to create a hint of floral aroma in this complex lager. A malt-accented ‘bockiness’, balanced with earthy and floral hop character combines with Cameron’s signature use of rye malt for a pleasant dryness and subtle, peppery flavour. This creates a delicious variation on a classic style.

Pours clear golden with a decent two finger head that retains well and leaves some splodges of lacing. Faint aroma of rye and breaded malt. Flavour is like the aroma but much stronger. Also has a touch of spice and a bitter finish. Quite good but no need to revisit.

Pours a thick frothy off-white head and has a clear amber appearance. Pretty good lacing. Aromas of bready malts and subtle rye notes. Flavours of rye are fairly pronounced, as well as some sweet and bready malts. Some caramel malts in the finish. Mild tingling sensation and light warming sensation. Pretty good stuff.

The beer pours a translucent reddish gold with a thin white cap. The aroma is rye, caramel, and some herbal hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is rye, caramel, some spice, and citrusy finsh. Not nearly as good as their RPA or Resurrection Roggenbier.
