Caffreys Irish Ale

One of the ubiquitous Irish beers found in Ontario along with Kilkenny, Smithwicks, Harp, and Guinness. And probably the worst of the bunch. The beer has described as both an Irish Red and as a Bitter. Neither one needs to be sullied by this. It pours a clear red-tinged golden colour with a weak white cap. The aroma is grass, yeast, and weak floral hops. The flavour is similar with the graininess of the hops being overly powerful and the hops getting lost in the mix.

Slightly bitter, lightly sweet, and a creamy texture combine for a nice ale, if a bit on the simple side. Looks great of course, coming from the nitro can. not a favorite style, but this is nice.

Draft at restaurant. Slowly settling in glass, golden yellow with silky lipsticking white foam head. I like these British smooth lagers. Quite bitter aroma, and also nice taste. Nice bitter aftertaste. Perfect. (Barnsley 201210)

A pretty standard, non-obtrusive beer, but not that much like most of the Irish Ales that I've had on the island from the tap. A nice amber, decent lacing and slightly sweet with just a kiss of the hops. Not bad, just not great.

This was another beer I had in London - it was FANTASTIC. This beer has sort of been a whale for me even though it is nothing spectacular (i.e. Westy 12). I am just glad that I had the chance to experience it. This beer was the creamiest beer I have ever had and it was big and bold. This was out of a can but amazing. I love this brew.

Very impressive appearance. Nice copperish color. Much nice white foam. Aroma is malty and soft. Taste is a little bit too waterish. Should have a little bit more edge in it.

440 ml nitro can, tab pops and makes the hissing noise from the gases releasing. A closer look at the label, and this one is Premium Draught Beer, 'brewed and packaged by Coors Brewers Ltd, Burton-On-Trent'. Label also show the proper serving instructions for a nitro can. A hard pour into my pint glass produces a very good looking cascade. Color is quite light, more gold than reddish, topped by a perfectly tight 1 inch foam head. Excellent retention, still foam at the end of the glass with thin rings of lace. Smell has some floral hops and some caramel, but the nitro pretty much kills any aroma. Taste, though light, has some roasted caramel malt and a hop finish. The mouthfeel is creamy and smooth, but at the same time, thin and watery. Good, not great, but enjoyable - and it looks cool to pour.

This isn't reminiscent of a lot of Irish Ales I've tried. It's a clear golden beer with a creamy white head and some carbonation. The aroma is definitely malty with a slight hoppish presence. The flavour is weak, there is a hint of beer here, and there, but not throughout.

The beer was a nice translucent orange/gold colour with a thick, creamy white head that lasted throughout the experience. The aroma was primarily malt with a slight hoppish hint. The mouthfeel was thick, and creamy, with very light carbonation. When taking into account the lack of carbonation, the flavour was nothing more than malted water. One could easily drink 5-6 of these as they go down easy................on this day, one was enough for me.

Dark orange in colour, very creamy off-white coloured head, great cascade effect, lots of lacing. The aroma of light caramel malt, slightly sweet, some floral hops, pretty plain actually. The flavour is weak with just a bit of caramel sweetness, soft and creamy. Light watery mouthfeel, light body, medium carbonation. Finishes quick. This is more of a novelty I think.
