Brewery At Lake Tahoe Prince of Pales Ale

a change of pace, this one had an ok body, but no interesting aroma or flavor to speak of. thoroughly boring, avoidable beer. i can't believe this place is still kicking, unless it's gotten better since last i visited.

The 2nd beer of the sampler order. An English style pale ale? Well, it was hoppy a la an American pale. In fact, with the cascade type flavor it reminded of SNPA, but not nearly as refined. Aroma was nearly non-existant, but after some prodding I could get some grapefruity hops. Appearance was clear, light amber in color with an off-white head. Flavor was fairly nicely balanced with hops and malt. Overall, for a beer in made in Lake Tahoe that's supposed to be an English style pale ale, it's not that bad.

Medium amber color, Medium white/tan head. Aroma is fruity and sweet (took a while to get any aroma). A medium bodied pale ale. Malts are nutty and fairly sweet. Hops are kind of mild, slightly spicy. A pale ale in the English style, so it much maltier than hoppy. It’s a little too sweet, but manageable. Smooth taste. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet

Served up draught at the brewpub, on a bright and sunny Sunday afternoon.

Karen and I stopped by this place, in order to kill some time before heading back to the seafood buffet at Harrah's just down the road. The walk did us good, and we worked up a bit of a thirst in the warmer-than-expected Sunday afternoon. Karen ordered up a pint of the Washoe Wheat, while I gave this one a try for the first time. (It was out the last time we stoped by, during our honeymoon March `04).

Nothing surprising in the appearence -- rather peachy/apricot-y (sic) in appearence. Solid foam and lacing.

Rather tame in the nose -- adequate, but really wanted some English hops and/or esters to pop out at me in the aroma.

Tends to make up for this in the flavor. At first, wasn't quite sure about this. Struck me as having something of a vague "hybrid" quality to the flavor profile. That is to say, an American Pale Ale malt bill, with perhaps an one-for-one swap in the hop-bill. But you know what? It works, overall. Didn't mind drinking this one bit.

With this place being as small as it is, seems to me that they made themselves a worthwhile beer, even with probably the same fairly clean House Yeast.

Perhaps a little acrid in the backend, but still, drinkable enough, all-told. A bit more "personable" than their problematic flagship "Bad Ass Ale", but still not as interesting as their IPA. But again, this wasn't a bad beer.
