BrewDog Punk IPA
BrewDog Punk IPA
Rated 3.338 by BeerPalsA beer of inherent contradiction. This heavy weight of the beer world is strikingly delicate with a white gold appearance. The light fruity aroma dominates the initial confrontation; lychee, kiwi and passionfruit all prevail with subtle nuances of cherry and strawberry. Don’t be fooled however by this smooth medium bodied ale. As it trickles down your throat as this wolf in sheep’s clothing begins to grow teeth. The bite comes as the bitterness builds and endures no matter how hard the malty sweetness of the alcohol tries to tame this ferocious beast. An exciting beer that will captivate with a whole body drinking experience.

Clean, lighter tasting but still hoppy. Belgian flavor at the end but not too much to take away from the front which has good flavor but not overpowering.

pours a golden color with very small head and very minimal spotty lingering lacing. the aroma is fruity zest hops. The taste is of citrus zest hops, caramel, vanilla and malt. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, mild with good carbonation.

Pours clear amber with a thick eggshell head. Aroma is not strong, but promises hops and fruit. Flavor, fortunately, is far bolder than the wan aroma, hoppy but not bitter, tropical fruit note almost as strong as the hops. Texture is firm and quite lively. Get punked!

On tap at Bier Markt, Ottawa. Pours a very small amount of foamy white head and has a pale yellowish appearance. Nice thick dirty lacing. Aromas are pine and grassy hops. Has a bit of a sweetness in there. Flavours are nice and fruity, quite citrusy with notes of pine and grassy hops. Great retention. Extremely easy going down. Perfect brew for parties.

Pours a very cloudy light amber with a sub one finger head that goes down fairly quick. Nicely carbonated and is a tad on the chunky monkey side. Aroma is hoppy and has a strong hint of something I can only describe as a bar of soap from Bath & Body Works. Taste is fairly tame with hints of candy sugar, hops, and flowers. Sticky ending. Burns a bit on the way down. Interesting brew.

Pours a golden yellow with a decent foamy white head. Tried it once and I think thats enough. Not too bad but has an odd perfumy flavour. Medium body.

Hazy golden yellow with solid white foam head. Aroma is fresh, taste is full flavour natural beer with a good biiter taste. The post addition of amazing fruity hops giving an explosion of tropical fruit flavours and a sharp bitter finish. (Velp 201208)

I really dig this IPA. Its got lots of nose, great bitterness, but more going on in the falvour than your typical hop profile. Its not just citrus and leaf, the malts are contributing fruit like sweetness. The brewers desription contrives strawberry and passion fruit, which to me is going a bit far, but I could see dried mangos. Sometimes I think there is a slight brit biscuit character... not sure though. Certainly bitter, but goes down easier, and 4 in a sitting doesnt give me an upset stomach. Overall, a take on American IPAs that would do well to see some emulation.

sampled 10/15/10. 660ml bottle. pours a clear golden color. medium sized, white head, lots of lacing. aroma is earthy/herbal/pine hops. medium bodied. good piney/citrus hoppiness up front with caramel malts in the background. good carbonation. aftertaste is slightly bitter and stays in my mouth urging me to have another sip. i'm liking brewdog, hope i find more in my area.
