Inspired by 18th century British brewing traditions, within which they brewed with 100% roasted malt, brown ales regained their popularity around 1920, and mainly consisted of pale malt along with a percentage of specialty malts. L’Écurieux, with its malty and toasted hazelnut flavours, is inspired by the traditions of north-eastern England, while its dark colour and somewhat sweet flavour pay tribute to southern versions. L’Écurieux will certainly quench your curiosity. P.S. No nuts are used in brewing this beer.

Bottle from local Métro store. Pours a clean dark copper colour with ruby highlights. Creamy beige head, decent lasting and lacing. Nice aromas of cocoa, molasses, roasted malts, vanilla and coffee. Sounds like a stout so far. The taste is where the nut brown comes out with nutty notes, red malts, hints of apples and hops in the finish. A slight different spin on the nut brown style, but a good brew for this brewer.

Picked up a 500ml bottle from the brewery. Pours an average size foamy bubbly head that goes away fairly quickly. Has a very dark amber appearance with ruby highlights. Lacing is fine. Aromas of light roasted malts. Flavours are mostly roasted malts, notes of hazelnut and hints coffee. Sort of excessive carbonation, quite fizzy. A little bit of a watery mouthfeel. Mild bitterness on the palate. Not bad.
