First brewed in Austria in 1841 by Anton Dreher, the Vienna lager was a popular style in the U.S. before prohibition and still remains a strong staple in Mexico. In a time when paler malts were being produced around the world, Dreher created one with a more amber hue and lightly toasted flavor. This type of malted barley gives Vienna Lagers their rich toasty complexity. We used a variety of grain for this one in addition to Vienna including two Pilsner malts and two Munich malts. German Tettnang hops provide a medium bitterness, hop flavor and a touch of aroma to complement this otherwise malty sweet brew.
