Surely everyone knows by now that Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence Day but the anniversary of the battle of Puebla. In a ploy almost as crafty as the battle plan the Mexicans used to defeat the French on May 5 in 1862 at Peubla, large American breweries have taken a local Mexican holiday and turned the date into a drinking holiday in the United States. Boscos de Mayo is a nod to the real brewing heritage in Mexico which was created by the Germans and the Austrians. Before they "gave" Mexico to the French and started all this Cinco de Mayo business, the Germans and Austrians were brewed "Vienna style" beers in Mexico. Boscos de Mayo uses toasty "Vienna" to recreate some of the flavors of these beers. Facts: O.G. 1047, I.B.U. 23
