Sugar Bush Brown – Just a small twist on a classic brown ale, we decided to mix in a little local flavour by adding some local maple syrup to the recipe.

On tap @ The Bent Elbow - Taps a hazed dark brown with some ruby highlights - 1 finger tawny cap - laces the glass. Aroma is subtle but there is a cocoa-coffee tone with a light promise of sweetness - a light hint of maple as well. The first thing that impresses you about the flavor of this brown is that it is not sweet but has enough sweetness that the hop bittering keeps it well below radar, nice roasty-toasty-nutty front side tones of coffee and cocoa with hazelnut, a wee hint of sweetness- balanced well with the herbaceous bittering hops - finish is toasy, dry and lightly bitter - a great take on this style, semi dry (I like that) and the maple syrup is detectable in aroma but does not create cloying tastes in the body - another good effort from this new nano-brewery.
