Another fine addition to the Black Sheep Brewery range of premium bottled ales, our Holy Grail Bitter was specially commissioned to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Monty Python. It has a distinctive taste with plenty of fruity hops, and is full flavoured with a dry and refreshing bitterness.

The beer poured a translucent reddish-gold with a bubbly tan coloured head and plenty of effervescence. The aroma was grainy and skunky and not at all appealing. Definitely an ESB. The mouthfeel was medium bodied and medium carbonation (despite the effervescence). The flavour is bitter with some grain and citrus notes thrown in.

Pours clear amber with a thick ivory head that leaves good lacing. Aroma features crisp fresh malt, sweet apple and a hint of resiny hops. Flavor delivers crisp fresh malt, tangy and sweet apple, piney hops. Texture presents good body and lively fizz. I've got a lovely bunch of ales--

This beer is not the holy grail, but it is still very drinkable. A light copper pour, some cloudiness, and a white cap. The aroma is light fruit, some caramel, some cereal, and herbal hops. The flavour is slightly sweet with a hoppy finish.

Pours a crystal clear amber with a one finger head that lofts for a second before letting down. Very well carbonated with a nice amount of lacing. Aroma is very, very sweet. Don't pick up much else in the aroma. Taste is very, very sweet. Touch of metal in the taste. Mouthfeel is very creamy dry. Overall a nice beer.

500 ml capped bottle. Poured in an English tulip pint a clear rich golden-amber coloured ESB with a one finger light beige and soapy foamy head that had a very long retention and tons of micro bubbles. Soft carbonation. Some lacing. The aroma is light sourish, toasted malts, fruity, apples and faint herbal hops. The flavour is light toasted malts, notes of caramel, dried fruits, almonds, fruity tones, apples, herbal and earthy hops. The mouthfeel is light crispy, round and bitter. The texture is light watery. This light to medium bodied ESB has a dry hoppy bitter finish. A decent and easy drinkable ESB.

Hmmm. This one has biscuit malt as well (and yeast) up front. Fruity hops are slight, as is some caramel. Otherwise pretty ho hum. Like the name, beer is a bit underwhelming.

Free bottle courtesy of a local store due to an issue with their credit card system (can never turn away a free beer). Very mild; light earthy hops, some yeasty and biscuity notes. Clever name/label is the highlight here.

Pours a golden to orange absolutely clear color. Forms a big white head with good retention and many lacings left. The aroma is very grainy with caramel and hops. TheTaste is like the aroma caramel, malts and hops. Slightly sweet upfront and mild hoppy aftertaste. The mouthfeel is light watery body. Medium carbonation. Mild bitter aftertaste.

Sampled at beer-tasting party. Only had a few ounce sample, but enough to get the idea. Lower carbonation-english feel to it. Pale golden-colored appearance. Saw it before on the shelf but never got around to sampling before this. Figured that it would be more "premium" or craft quality, but pretty much an average ESB at best.

Well I wasn't expecting this. I thought this beer was going to be a joke but in reality, it is a really good ale. It is a bitter in my opinion. Pour and mouthfeel is a little thin. Taste is a little watery but the rest is spot on. I think I'll have another.
