Black Sheep Ale is brewed using traditional and time honoured methods which achieve a beer of the highest quality. It is a superb premium bitter which is brewed in restored antique brewing vessels and fermented in the unusual Yorkshire Square system to produce a distinctive robust ale. Brewed with many generous handfuls of choice Golding hops, it is full flavoured ale with a rich fruit nose. The bittersweet malty taste is followed by an uncompromising long, dry and bitter finish. This beer was the first, most successful, of all of our bottled beers.

Very muted, almost bland. Poured deep copper with a slightly creamy head. thirst quenching, but nothing special. Other beers from this brewer are more interesting.

Black Sheep Ales are a regular at the local liquor store, and a guilty pleasure of mine. This is a slightly hazed golden copper colour with a small thin off white head. The aroma is light caramel, grains, earthy hops, and some nuttiness. Flavour is quite plentiful in the form of nutty caramel, some grains, and a bitter finish. Well done.

Darker yellow with lasting white foam head. Aroma is malty bitter, taste is nice bitter with some caramel. Nice long aftertaste. Indeed crisp, dry and bittersweet. (Velp 201208)

It pours burnt-orange/amber without much head and some specks of lace. An aroma of caramel malts, hops, orange-citrus, cranberry, and spices. The mouthfeel is smooth and rich. Flavors of caramel malts, hops, bitterness, orange-citrus, bread & yeast, walnut, and spiciness. Very good!

A very respectable ESB. Very rich brew with a nice fruitiness (yet not too sweet) about it mostly in the nose. Very nicely balanced in all respects with the flavor really being the big hit with this one. Nice head as well. Savor the moments with this one.

A very nice ale, if not fantastic. Appearance was hard to gauge due to its coming in a brown (but rather pretty) bottle. Aroma is malty with a whisper of sweetness, very inviting. Taste has some surprising hoppiness and a little bitterness, but is still malty with smoky undertones. This is a pleasant ale worth enjoying and savoring, rather than chugging at a party or sipping with dinner.

This is one of the best ESBs I can think of. It pours a beautiful reddish brown colour with a nice aroma that is slightly sweet and slightly hoppy. It goes down smooth with a minimum of aftertaste.

aroma is sweet with a nutty undertone. appearance it has a dark honey , with a camel cap that disappears rapidly. crisp taste with very little after taste, a slight bite on the back of the tongue. flavor starts sweet with a hint of carmel, that progresses into a weak hoppy bitterness. overall a better beer than anticipated good all around beer. drinkable in any season may go well with bar-bq.

I have only had a few bitters but this one is not as good as the others. It is a really nice beer to look at but flavor is just weak in my opinion.
