In the height of British Imperial glory, the English were dismayed to find their beer did not survive the long sea voyage in good condition. The solution to making their Pale Ale arrive without spoiling was to add additional hops (a natural preservative) and increase the amount of grain to give it a higher alcohol content. Thus, the Imperial Pale Ale (IPA) was born and has gone on to become one of the most popular beer styles in the world. Our West Coast-style Jagged Edge IPA recipe takes the hop factor to the next level, perfectly balancing it with hearty English malts to give it the zesty backbone of a bold IPA. This is a brew that can take on assertive dishes with lots of spice and heat as well as richer foods like creamy pastas. Push your taste buds to the Jagged Edge! Jagged Edge IPA is available in bottles and kegs at quality retailers, pubs and restaurants throughout Northern California and Nevada.

An OK IPA, fairly standard actually. Sparkling copper body, foamy head and very good lacing. Strong bitterness, medium bodied. Catty hops with a pine punch followed by citrus and a heavy dose of caramel.

Pours a light amber with an orange tint to it. Slightly cloudy and a fluffy medium sized head which recedes after a couple of minutes. Tons of sticky lacing. The aroma has some faint citrus hops are subtle compared to the strong grainy malt aroma. Getting some yeast scents as well. The taste initially is subtle grapefruit hop flavor is overtaken by biting malt. A bit of earthiness to the lingering hop finish. The mouthfeel is medium with above average carbonation. Sampled this beer at the World of Beers.

A friend of mine left this at the house after a dinner party. Ah the perks of hosting evening shindigs! A bright white sudsy head that leaves a thick layer of lacing all over the glass. The lacing does dry up a bit, but the foam never leaves the surface of the beer. There is no sweetness here, only dryness on the tongue and the aftertaste. Between the very dry flavor and the sharp bitter, my face wants to squish up a bit...this is not the kind of beer that I could drink a lot of. One was beautiful; two would be difficult to finish. A slightly opaque traffic-light amber pour; very slight carbonation. An IPA that could really use some finesse.

this traditional ipa has about half of a full hop flavor. unispired and uninspiring, not even that good in the heat of summer, and this may be their best beer that I've had.

Tasted at the 9th Annual Bistro IPA Festival (2006). This IPA pours a light gold color. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is grapefruity and floral. A medium bodied IPA. Malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. Hops are earthy and floral. More in the English style of an IPA. Mild bitterness. Smooth tasting. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
