12oz can swilled down and rated in-flight on Delta flight #25 at seat 19C. The can poured with a crystal clear gold body that supports a bright white head. The modest aroma offers up floral and spicy and slightly earthy lime like hoppiness with a mild malt sweetness in the background. The taste delivers a pretty nice load of crisp Noble hops that are supported adequately by clean sweet pilsner like malts. The hops bring up a surprising level of hop bitterness here that I certainly wasn’t expecting. Way better than the couple of other options on these flights. Solid.

Bittburger 12 oz brown bottle. Date code says 1817, it has aged well! Has a slight skunk aroma on the popping of the cap. After the pour there is a hint of yeast in the background. I can’t see pils on the label but everybody I know calls it bitburger pils! Bitte ein bit? Pours like a typical pale yellow american beer, light yellow with carbonation. Has a flavor that imparts am almost roughness about it. Can almost pass for an ale of some sort, but aren’t pilsners a lager? There is a bitterness in there that may appeal to some pale ale lovers. That, perhaps, may be the reason why it rates so high on this website. Definitely not as well behaved as your typical american lager. Compared to stouts pils, it is on par, about the same performance. I think bohemian beers may be a bit more refreshing. The looks of this beer hides the coarseness of it. Finish is not quite like a pale ale or IPA but it is offensive to a milder extent. Who said lagers can’t have a creative personality? The hoppy bitterness lingers for a while.

50cl from a kiosk in Friedrichshain. Moderate grainy aroma with som herbal and hoppy notes. Fairly lightbodied, but easy to drink and a mild, but pleasant bitterness. Hardly remarable, but a fairly decent pilsner in my book. (2013-10-12)

Draft/Stubbie. Smell leaves room for desire very skunky. Always seem to taste grainy to me. Usually a big hit at beer festivales in Rheinland-Pfalz Germany.

Can. Colour – pale gold, huge frothy white cap, decent lacing. Aroma – grains, light yeast, weak citrus, herbal hops. Mouthfeel – medium bodied, medium carbonation. Flavour – biscuit malt, a slight sweetness, followed by a weak hop finish. Inoffensive, but nothing I would recommend to friends.

Sampled on Singapore Airlines. Kind of bland in flavor, with light grain and grassy notes. Some caramel in the color and taste. Flatter feel. Average at best as far as a pilz is concerned. Think I'd prefer a Beck's. (German brewed or St. Louis brewed).

A deep gold pour, clear, with a frothy white head that you expect from a German lager. Biscuity malt, yeast, and herbal hops round out the aroma. Flavour is nicely balanced between the malt and hops, again, something you would expect from a German lager
