This beer is definitely an American interpretation of a Scottish ale. Wonderfully hoppy as well as being malty like a good Scot should be. This beer is a nice amber color, and pours with a nice head. This beer is nicely bitter, and accompanies the bitterness with a decent amount of hop flavor as well.

Amber colored brew - showed rose and orange highlights under direct light; head smallish and short-lived. Fruity, malty aroma was pleasant - also noted a soapy/detergent-like note. Mouthfeel was thin and watery - a trait that seems to plague the Yakima brews - OK in a quencher, not OK in this style. Big malty body tries to balance with some hops, but they have a bit of an ashy astringency that isn't pleasant and likely not planned. Wet cardboard aftertaste finishes this one off on a sour note (figuratively speaking). Not a very appealing Scottish - select another if you have choices.

Bottle. Thin, fizzy head that quickly fades. Light and visible carbonation. Aroma is strongly Cascade-ey, slightly fruit coctail sweet. Flavor reminds me of Redhook ESB, before RHESB got boring. It's more cascades, but less malt. Still nicely balanced. Light and lively palate, finishes fuggles-like with nice alcohol presence. Went well with cedar plank roasted salmon.

Pours with a cola-fizzy head and it dissipated almost as fast. Nice amber colored body. The aroma is sweet malt, citrusy hops. Flavor is like that of the bastard child of an APA and an ESB. A slight sourness to the aroma and flavor. Slick moutfeel. Basically, they've taken a pretty run-of-the-mill APA and labeled it as a scottish ale. Being not even a really good APA and a horrendous halfassed attempt at a Scottish I can't give this a very high rating. I will say that it's not a bad beer, though.

Scottish Ales are not my cup of tea... There's a quality about them that tastes like a band-aid to me, and this was no exception. I guess it's the peat. Thankfully this is brewed in the Yakima Valley, where cascade hops are plentiful. Cascades are always welcomed in my beers, and that made this a bit more tolerable. I'm not going to ding it too hard just because I'm not crazy about the style in general, but I can't rightfully give it anything more than average.

Beige head quickly went away. Light copper color. Caramel aroma and taste. A bit thin in the body. Overall, a decent beer, but not the best of Grant's.

Clear, red-amber color with very little foam. This beer hits with bitterness up front, showing no sweetness at first, giving it a very odd mouthfeel. The sweetness that does appear is a little buttery, lacking in flavor, and totally outplaced by the hops. Strangely carbonated. Finish is dry. No lacing. Aroma is also mainly hoppy with hints of citrus and a touch of fruit. This has to be the most unusual Scottish style ale I've ever tried. There's no way I can give this beer a good review!
