With a deep, mahogany hue, this subtle IPA favours a coffee-forward aroma, and the Chinook hops give a drying-bitterness. The dark, burnt malt and bold blend of coffee beans leave behind a wonderful, lingering, dry finish that remind us of the fact that it’s “all about the coffee”. Brewed in collaboration with Blue Dog Coffee Roasters, also located in Brantford, Ontario, this beer is the story of two, independent, locally-owned businesses that have teamed up to do what they both do best. Blue Dog coffee, paired with a black IPA from Bell City Brewing.

Pours a dark brown colour with a little ruby-caramel highlights. Big frothy light-mocha coloured head, good stay and levelled lacing. You can smell the coffee over the roasted malts. It calms down, and eventually some sweetness does come out, like chocolate notes. The taste shows the hops with bitterness and dryness. The roasted malts grains linger a while as dryness builds. The coffee is light in this Black IPA, but adds a nice touch overall. Pretty good!

The beer pours a translucent reddish-brown colour with a generous foamy tan coloured head that doesn’t last very long. The aroma is coffee, grass, and some citrusy hops. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is weak coffee, citrusy hops, and light cereal grains. A bit of a disappointment as I was expecting more coffee flavour.
