Belhaven Black Scottish Stout really is something completely different. Fresh roasted aroma and taste with a hint of coffee from the roasted barley used in the recipe. The addition of Chocolate malt adds a dark chocolate complexity. Simply hopped with Challenger to provide a clean low level bitterness. The dry hop character from challenger is kept to a minimum allowing the key roasted and chocolate flavours to come to the fore.Belhaven Black Scottish Stout really is something completely different. Bursting with roast coffee and chocolate flavours, this is a truly genuine and premium pint. Brewed using pure Scottish water and a unique blend of Scottish triple malts sourced from the finest locally grown barley. Malt: Pale, Chocolate, Crystal, Roasted Barley Hops: Challenger

Tall can (nitro) from the Beer Store. Pours a fairly big frothy tan head with a thick stocky head and has a deep dark black appearance. Moderate carbonation. Aromas of dark roasted malts, notes of chocolate and coffee. Flavours are mostly mild toasted malt, hints of coffee and chocolate. Smooth and silky mouthfeel. Not bad.

Pours rich coffee sable with a fair beige head that leaves good lacing. Aroma yields roast malt, coffee and semi-sweet chocolate plus a hint of licorice. Flavor delivers roast malt, coffee, chocolate, licorice, and a hint of caramel. Mouthfeel features full body and fair fizz. Black it to me.

500 ml clear bottle, as Belhaven Black Scottish Stout, from a potential importer. ABV is 4.2%. Very dark ruby to mahogany colour, moderate beige head. Weak aroma but not unpleasant, hints of fruit and weak coffee. Fizzy mouthfeel, light bodied. The medium dry flavour has mild roasty notes, mild coffee and grain. Again: not unpleasant, but too little of everything. The 7% Scottish Stout is far better.

Easy drinking flavourful stout. Pours black with a creamy head that doesn't leave much lace. Mild roasted malt aroma and flavour. Sweet chocolate, weak coffee and char. Medium smooth mouthfeel. Ok stuff, could knock a few of these off.

4-pack of cans at The Beer Store with the nitro widget. Pours a dark brown colour, a little darker than cola with a cascade effect that disappears quickly but forms a creamy beige head that lasts a while. Beautiful roasted malt nose giving coffee notes and nuts. Full creamy lacing follows. Still roasted malts in the taste, but watery. Very mild coffee, nuts and liquorice. Very mild. Still, an easy-drinking Scottish stout that is not too heavy, but smooth.

Found this one on tap at the Wayside Pub... This poured out as a nice deep blackish brown color with a decent tan head on top, that left some really nice thick lace. The smell has some light chocolate and some earthy roasted aromas. The taste of the beer is on the sweeter side, with the chocolate, roasted notes kinda dry it out. The mouthfeel isn't overly heavy at all, it's probably medium bodied and has a light amount of carbonation. Overall this beer is pretty decent.

A red-brown beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt and bread. The flavor is roasted malt, bread, and a bit of wood, leading to a dry roasted finish.
