Part of #febrewary 2016! Embitterment is an I.P.A. that blends and balances the more delicate and floral characteristics of select hops and mints. Brewed with organic lemon balm, spearmint and peppermint. History & Style A boat-load of extra hops (a natural preservative) made India Pale Ales (I.P.A.s) historically better suited for long voyages when shipping to British soldiers stationed afar, including India. Their distinct taste caught on, and now these ales are widely known and enjoyed for their aggressively hopped aromas and flavours. Tasting Notes Embittermint I.P.A. pours a hazy yellow with white foam. The aroma is a combination of orangey citrus and muddled mint (think mortar and pestle and mojito). This beer is medium-bodied with an explosion of julep-y orange flavour that is offset by cool mint. The finish is long lasting and refreshing. Food Pairings Roast leg of lamb with mint sauce; chicken tikka masala with minted raita; pasta tossed with cheese curds, cream & mint & basil pesto; grilled New York steak with paloise sauce (minted Béarnaise); aged gouda cheese or raw milk 3-year-old cheddar. Technical Specs * ALC/VOL: 6.7% * INGREDIENTS: Local spring water, organic barley malts, organic hops, organic lemon balm, organic spearmint, organic peppermint, brewer’s yeast. * MALTS: Pale ale, carahell, carafoam, acidulated (all organic) * HOPS: Organic crystal, organic WGV (Whitbread-Golding Variety) * YEAST: Dry British ale * IBU’S: 60 * OG: 15 * FG: 2.5 * SERVING TEMP.: 5-8 C * GLASSWARE: Toscana

On tap at Arrow and Loon. Pours no head whatsoever and has a hazy orangey appearance. Weak lacing. Aromas of grassy hops. Flavours are fruity, sweet malts, hints of spices. The mint is somewhat in the background, not overly minty in my opinion. Much more bitter hoppiness than anything else. But it's well blended and makes it quite easy to drink.

Enjoyed at the Arrow & Loon for "Febrewary" 2016. Pours a hazy golden-orange colour with a white head and little wet lace dripping down. Fruity malt aromas with oranges and mango. The mint is more present in the taste, well-blended with the hops, creating a nice bitterness in the finish. Hints of fruits as well. Decent brew that does not have overpowering mint and goes well with the hops.
