From its elusive, intriguing aroma to its subtle yet celebratory aftertaste, this light but substantial beer has mysterious undertones of rosehips, elderberries, and mountain herbs, with a deeper tone of roots and woodsy bark. Fresh and spring-like, confident and down-to-earth yet inspirational, rooted in the wild world of foraging and gathering, NooBroo is everything the MaddAddamites would wish an all natural beer to be. Saint Euell Gibbons himself would applaud it! - Margaret Atwood About Beau’s All Natural has teamed up with award-winning Canadian writers and longtime environmental activists Margaret Atwood and Graeme Gibson to create MaddAddamites NooBroo, an inspired gruit ale. The light-tasting, herb-and-berry infused beverage has lively carbonation and a pleasantly tart finish. A limited-edition beer release, this beer is brewed in honour of the Pelee Island Bird Observatory (PIBO), and will raise funds for its ongoing research. History & Style Gruits are beers brewed with herbs and other botanicals in lieu of hops. MaddAddamites NooBroo summer gruit includes many of the botanicals noted in Margaret Atwood’s latest novel MaddAddam, the third book in her trilogy of speculative fiction that includes Oryx and Crake, and The Year of the Flood. Within the context of MaddAddam there is much foraging and harvesting of plants and botanicals, and Atwood calls this collaboration “The beer Gods Gardeners would have made.” Atwood personally tasted and selected the bouquet of botanicals included in this delicate, delicious gruit. Tasting Notes Light in body with berry notes, a tea-like herbal character and a pleasantly tart finish that beckons the next sip. The lively effervescence adds to the quenching nature of this summer-suited gruit. Pours a reddish/amber. What little head there is, is gone in a flash and leaves no lacing. Sour and fruity aroma. Flavours are all very mild. Weak herbal tea, light fruits, grass and a bit of tartness.

The beer pours a clouded golden red with a 1/2 inch off white head. The aroma is grains, hibiscus, yeast, and herbal hops mixed in with some musty notes. The mouthfeel is weak to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is must, tart light fruit, grains, and yeast. No rush to try this again for me. -

Enjoyed at Arrow & the Loon after the RedBlacks first home game. Pours a hazy golden colour with no head, no lacing. Loads of aromas with notes of oranges, mint, yeast and even mild sourness. Fruity taste with the oranges again, sweet teas and mild yeast. Interesting brew with lots of fruity notes of citrus.

Pours barely any head, just a very thin coating and has a slightly cloudy amber appearance. Flavours of Mild spices, herbal and resin hops. Gruit is not as noticeable as I was expecting. Flavours of spices, resin hops. Slick but also sort of a watery mouthfeel. Not too bad.
