This hazy blonde gruit ale is brewed with bog myrtle and chaga mushrooms foraged from the wild, for the taste of a hike in the woods in your glass. Bog myrtle imparts herbal and peppery notes, while chaga lends earthiness and a tea-like character for intriguing complexity. History & Style The Gruit Series takes inspiration from centuries-old brewing tradition. In gruit ales, herbs, spices and other botanicals replace a dominant hop character, throwing open the door to experimentation. Tikkatee Gruit employs two locally available oraganic brewing ingredients, bog myrtle and chaga mushrooms. Tikkatee is is known in Finland as “woodpecker tea” and made with chaga mushrooms, inspiring the name and label for this beer. Tasting Notes Tikkatee Gruit pours deep hazy gold with a quickly dissipating white foam. The aroma is predominantly herbal with a hint of bubblegum and cinnamon. The flavour is sweet and slightly peppery. The use of Vermont ale yeast creates some apricot-like fruit notes. The finish is mildly tannic and drying. INGREDIENTS Local spring water, barley* malts, oats*, bog myrtle*, chaga mushrooms*, hop*, brewer's yeast (organic). MALTS Organic pale ale, organic acidulated YEAST Vermont ale yeast

600ml bottle from LCBO. Pours an average size frothy white head that dissipates to a small foamy coating and has a pale golden appearance. Weak lacing. Lively carbonation. Aromas of floral and herbal hops, gruit, a bit lemony. Flavours are citrus and lemon, some herbal and floral notes. Some grassy notes as well. A little bit of sourness on the palate. Not one of my favourites from the gruit series.

Hazy golden-orange colour with an off-white head that stays averagely, leaving some foam streaks. Kind of a funky nose, not so Brett though, with maybe the closest to have a little earthiness, and sourness is not too crazy. Really fruity with some sugar notes. The taste has fruitiness showing again, with some light earth, sourness and even hints of cinnamon in the finish. A tad dry in the end. Another very different gruit beer from this series, which ends up being quite nice.
