Four Flower is a gruit ale featuring a bouquet of aromatics and flavour – the recipe includes red clover, elderflower, borage, and honeysuckle, all of which are artfully illustrated on the label. Eighty kilograms of organic flowers are used to create each batch of Four Flower. History & Style The Gruit Series takes inspiration from centuries-old brewing tradition. In gruit ales, herbs, spices and other botanicals replace a dominant hop character, throwing open the door to experimentation. Borage, also known as starflower, has a pedigree as a beer ingredient that goes back to medieval times. Tasting Notes Four Flower Gruit pours light orange with a white foam and slight haze. The aroma is both floral and fruity with citrus notes. The flavour imparts malt sweetness and stone fruit notes. The finish is clean and crisp. Food Pairings Salad made with edible flowers, chèvre, and honey drizzle; creamy cheeses and creamy desserts like pana cotta; baklava

Bottle from LCBO. Pours a nice medium size frothy white head and has a golden orangey appearance. Lacing is average. Aromas are floral and herbal. Flavours are somewhat sweet and malty, some floral and grassy notes, hints of elderflower and mild spices. Very subtle honey notes. A bit of orange and citrus in the finish. A crisp and drying mouthfeel. Not too bad.

Slightly hazed from the tiny transparent particles. Golden in colour, with a frothy off-white head, good retention and some thick creamy-foamy lacing. Perfumy aromas with wood notes and mild cereal grains, honey hints. Not sure about the taste though. Reminds me of hints of infection, but I know it is not. Just does not sit well with me. The rest is alright though with the gruity hoppy notes over the sweet malts. The spices are quite light all-around. Too bad as the ingredients look amazing (as always with Beau's), but not feeling everything.
