COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION A coffee ale with a touch of cream. Calm Before the Storm came from a quest for a warm weather alternative to our Victory at Sea Imperial Porter. Like its more robust cousin, we infuse a punch of flavor using cold brewed Caffé Calabria coffee and a hint of vanilla. But this time, we added it to a lighter-bodied golden cream ale. The end result is a surprisingly bright, coffee-forward beer that’s perfectly refreshing. Previously listed at 6.2% abv.

At first this seemed like an average blandish cream ale. Then after a few sips the coffee and cocoa nibs settled in. Has a semi-creamy texture, though I prefer even more. The coffee addition really helps, though without this doesn't really seem like a Ballast Point quality brew. Glad I tried a single that a buddy gave me...but would pass on full 6.

Pours clear amber with a thick and rather persistent eggshell head. Coffee tone reaches the nose first, followed by vanilla and fresh malt, then a hint of hops. Malt comes forth stronger in the flavor, but coffee and vanilla still make their presence known, and hops remains in the background. Mouthfeel has thin body though decent fizz. Storm coming? Let this be the calm.

Pours out a dark gold color with no head. The aroma to this Florida boy smells like burnt orange. The mouthfeel is just above average. The taste is nothing special except to say the cream ale must be the vanilla flavor. It's okay but it's not something to remember.

12 oz bottle. Pours clear light copper gold with a big white meringue head that retains well and leaves a little lacing.
The aroma is cream ale with vanilla.
The flavor is cream ale with vanilla and some coffee roast in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation.
Overall, cream ale with vanilla and coffee is not really my thing. -

A big thanks to Slowrunner77 for this beer. An awesome beer - tasted like cream soda (sans the soda carbonation/mouthfeel) infused with coffee. A very nice golden color. Smell tracked the aroma to a tee. Wonderful beer.
