Named after the isotope essential for nuclear grade weapons, this “Weapons Grade Ale” is the hop bomb you didn’t see coming! At 100 bittering units, PU240 captures the explosive hop flavor and aroma necessary to acheive a critical mass that you won’t find in other high-hop ales. A classified and combustible amount of Summit and Galena hops along with a double Dry-hop bombardment of Simcoe, Columbus and Nugget contribute to PU240’s high rate of spontaneous hop fusion.

Draft, The Bistro, DIPA Festival. Well, I hate to be a wet blanket, but I didn’t much like this one. There was a very odd off note, almost a playdough or rubber taste. Otherwise, it seemed like a decent DIPA. Fairly good and hoppy nose with a lasting bitter aftertaste. I hope that I didn’t get a pour from a dirty pitcher or something, but everything seemed alright. I’ll make sure to retry this beer if I get the chance.

On tap. Cloudy orange/burnt orange body with a fluffy 2" foamy cap. Intensely fresh hop aroma, bursting with hop juice. Citrusy and catty...wow..very nice. Flavor really delivers the hop goodness with loads of grapefruit, orange and lemon peel....subtle sweet malts. Wonderful.

Tasted on tap at the Bistro Double IPA Festival on 2/7/2009. This Imperial IPA pours a slightly cloudy orange gold color from the tap. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is piney and citrusy. A medium bodied Imperial IPA. The malts are fruity and sweet, with a touch of caramel. The hops are piney and floral. A fairly bitter IPA. The bitterness lasts in the aftertaste. Good carbonation. There is a touch of sweetness at the finish. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is crisp and clean. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

slightly better body than the regular ipa, but i like the hop profile of that one better than this one. absolutely nothing wrong with it, but the gold digger set the bar pretty high. good beer overall. rerate 1/09-had side by side with the Gold Digger and this one is actually better. GREAT body, good piney aroma and flavor. 12/10-now bottled...22's for $7, and renamed PU240.
