This one is black and sweet! Its malty character is derived from two carmel malts along with Munich malt to create the smoothest high gravity beer this side of the "pond".

Aug. 2010 - Fizzy big head which dissipated to nothing as fast as cola. Within a few minutes, it looked pretty much like flat cola. Smells of wood and dark fruit. The flavor was also woody and fruity with some chocolate but with a horrible sour lactic finish. A tad thin on the tongue. I wonder if something was amiss with the bottle or batch...it seemed like it had potential but ended up not being very enjoyable.

Pours a deep, warm sable with a fairly thick, if not persistent, pale tan head. Aroma is not strong, but is malty and spicy and somewhat inviting. Flavor is malty, a little spicy, a bit on the thin side but still palatable. Texture is smooth, a little fizzy, just a bit watery. I've had better, but this is worth a try.

Listed on the board at the Old Toad in Rochester, NY as "Voodoo Vator Doppelbock", my interest was peaked in this one. I wasn't sure who brewed it, but I liked the name and the idea of having a doppelbock having just eaten a big steak dinner.
The beer was served up in an 11 ounce glass tulip glass. The first thing I inspected was the aroma. At first I really didn't smell much of anything, so I let it sit for a few minutes to warm up. Eventually there was a slight sweet malty and molasses aroma that comes out. Nothing too special though. The beer has a dark brown color with a ruby hue to it. There's a slight off-white head that immediately dissipates.
The main taste that I pick up on is a light teriyaki flavor. From what I've seen this is somewhat the standard flavor for most doppelbocks. That is kinda why I think these beers are great with or soon after a steak dinner. The part I was a little disappointed on was the mouthfeel. I felt like this one was a little on the watery side for the style. The beer did have a moderate carbonation level, but it still wasn't great.
Overall, I really thought this was an average doppelbocks. It's not that it was bad, it's just that there are other doppelbocks that I've had that are many times better. -

Nice beer. It pours a very dark chocolate colour with a reddish hue. The head is slight with a tan colour, leaves behind very attractive lacing. Aroma is nutty, hint of oak and possibly a little bourbon as well. Mouthfeel is suprisingly lighter then what i expected, but pleasent regardless. Slightly bready, maybe maple syrup is what i taste also. Flavors are all around very well balanced and enjoyable, but i expected more of a thicker texture from a HG brew.

Awesome label, cool name, mediocre brewer. Seasonal 4-pack showed up at the local store so I had to try it especially intrigued by the high abv, even high for the style. Decent aroma of sugary malt, anise, and a hearty dose of molasses. Dark brown with a rich red tint, very thin tan head, but no lacing. Thin body and very smooth. This drinks like a standard bock, no alcohol can be detected. I would never have guessed the strength if not shown on the label. Flavor is pretty close to style. There is the extreme sugary malt, fresh baked sweet breads with some caramel and molasses. I detected a small amount of chocolate toward the end. Pretty decent, very drinkable for a high gravity brew. I would prefer a little more complexity and a thicker body.

The mystery has been solved! Now lets see who you really are? Its Voodoo Vator! And I would have gotten away with it if it werent for you medeling kids! Uh anyway a reddish brown apperance with a beige head. A chocolate and caramel aroma is present. The flavor consists mainly of chocolate with some dark fruits lurking. A crisp finish. Pretty good beer.
