Anderson Valley is famous for its fertile farm land, and it is these farms and their farmers that inspired Mowkeef Saison, our summer installment of the Bahl Hornin’ series. Historically, Saisons were brewed on farms in Belgium, and were designed to refresh farm hands after a long day’s work. We believe Mowkeef Saison is a nice innovation on this traditional style, and will refresh farm hands and pub goers alike. Mowkeef, which means “hay reaper” in our native Boontling, is a Saison with a traditional malt foundation, featuring a medley of malted grains including barley, rye, and oats. Unusually hopped with english noble hops, and spiced with ginger, coriander, and star anise, this straw-colored unfiltered ale is a welcome respite from summer heat, and a perfect fit with Anderson Valley’s lineup of balanced, complex, and authentic beers.

Nice bright and complex saison. English hops and rye up front. Just a little on the musty side. Wish all the new stuff from the last two years would show up in bottles - finally got a non traditional AV on tap.

A cloudy golden colored beer with a big frothy white head rising robustly above a light crisp body. There's good hang time on this one. settles eventually leaving heavy splotches of film and a thin ringlet. Zesty, peppery, grass notes. Quite good

White foamy head, big retention, nice golden colour, really bright! Smell is bright too, orangy yeast, pretty sure its the same yeast as I have had in ambacht's beers. Light white pepper, mostly fruit juice, thin in the mouth. Started strong but the body is a bit too thin and it lacks a dry/bitter/acid to keep it fresh and exciting. Flabby I think they would say in the wine world.
