It’s kinda strange to have a dopplebock, especially one called Winterbier Dopplebock, in the middle of a Summer in California, but here it is. The beer pours out a dark rusty brown color, cloudy with small bubbles rising up to the top. Very small head on the pour, which melted into just a scant 1/8" head. Subsequent swirls bring up a cream 1/2" head, but it melts quickly.
Aroma starts out very light, some light toffee and vinous notes, and baked potato. Warming up some bready notes come out and light metallic/dirty penny notes. Flavor is lightly roasted malt notes, a bit irony, a bit of biting alcohol, and a finish of dark fruits. I would have like a little more complex finish, maybe a little more sweetness. Not bad though. -

Sampled on 11/27/2008. This doppel bock pours a dark brown color form a 50cl swing top bottle. Small to medium sized beige foamy head. The aroma is toasted malt, caramel and cookie. A medium bodied doppelbock. The malts are caramel, fruity and semi sweet. The hops are floral and earthy. Nice balance. Good carbonation. This one starts out fairly sweet and finishes slightly crisp and dry. Nice doppelbock. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Aroma is grainy and sweet with some dark prunes and maltiness. Appearance is a rich reddish amber in color with a full head on top that is tan in color and diminishes to a thin lacing on the glass. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with malty sweet complexity as well as some muted hoppy balance with a palate that is well-rounded. Flavor is of dark fruits and plum with an aftertaste that is weizenbock-esque and has a finish that is tasty and smooth. Overall, very good German Doppelbock.

Nice deep brown color with a foamy, tawny head - very attractive. One of the few beers you just sit and stare at awhile because it looks so nice. Very little in the way of aroma, nothing offensive, but nothing going on there - bland, generic beer smell. Rich malt and yeastiness up front are OK, but the finish and aftertaste are of astringent, bitter alcohol. Almost tastes like it's been laced with gin. This beer is not so hot IMO. Glad I didn't opt for the magnum at Binnys.

poured from a swing top bottle very dark with a thick off white beige head that thins out quickly a very ripe fruit that is very dominant the flavour is very fruity with a dominant almost banana flovor i think the nuts and spice are hinted in the flavor but definitely not what i expected a little thin for what i was expecting with a light carbonation decent brew but not at all what i expected

Poured a dark brown color from a flip top bottle. Medium off white head that disappears quickly. Aroma is sweet, fruity with a hint of spice. Tastes like it smells. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and creamy. Nothing stands out, just a solid beer.
