Doppelbocks are named with words that end in "ator", so, as a nod to its alcoholic strength, we've named ours Radiator as in "an object that radiates energy". Radiator was brewed to the Aurora Brewing Challenge gold medal winning recipe of Glen Burns (he's the guy on the label). Many thanks to Glen for sharing his recipe and for traveling all th e way from Kamloops to help brew this beer.

***old, recently found paper review done the week that this hit the stores.***
Poured out a nice mahogany brew with a 3-4mm thick creamy light tan head that never dissapears. Lots of spotty lacing. Lots of toasted malts - very strong on the malts, some fruit (plum?) to be found in the aroma. The taste is all malts as it should be, slightly sweet tasting malts, very tasty with tons of flavour. Notable alcohol burn but it's a mouth burn only and it is short lived. The bitterness is a touch too much but totally acceptable. The finish is decent but a bit too bitter. Near to full bodied, light to no carbonation and smooth overall. A decent brew, however it has near to zero shelf life. Drink fresh! -

Dark dark ruby red almost brown looking body and a small skiff of a cap was produced constantly being rebuilt by columns of bubbles coming up from the bottom. The aroma seems sweet and packed with caramel malts, some noticeable hops, overall this is smooth and very pleasant I’m starting to notice some alcohol in the aroma the more the beer warms. Tasty dark malts with a hint of apple juice and a touch of alcohol in the finish, the aftertaste is sweet with the roast malt character lingering for a short while. Very tasty brew crisp, clean, lots of good flavor, highly enjoyable it looks like for once Alley Kat did good.

Bottle: rough pour puts a brilliant clear cola-red lager with a massive rocky tan cap into the bock glass. Great lacing on the glass ( lotsa protiens) Marvelous aroma: bready , herbal, musty with dried fruit and some cocoa.....pungent layered and balanced. Good solid malt spine, silky mouthfeel, medium-full body, drinkable malty character. Up front a good chew on spiced raisin bread, mid-palate the hop mixture creates some more layered flavors; herbs, nuts spice, cocoa...then the finish is excellent...this chewy malt monster dries out in a light herbal bittering and a warmth generated by the alcohol...light cocoa-bready aftertastes...like unsweetened chocolate. Overall impression: Not as rich or full bodied as some doppels but a very drinkable flavorful doppelbock...very satifying and warming, mellow but layered, malty but easy to have more than a couple...one of the best I’ve tasted from North American brewers.
