Brown ales are the all purpose beers for dark ale lovers. Our Amber is no exception. Okay - we're going to say it: beer isn't always about the hops. Ales like our Amber are more about getting a sweet, roasty and malty taste. This is London-style brew is no exception. Dark with a caramel aroma, the Alley Kat Amber focuses on the subtle tastes in every sip. “A beautifully balanced brown ale with notes of chocolate, raisin, and allspice” – Stephen Beaumont’s The Great Canadian Beer Guide The major thing to note for Amber ale is the emphasis on the malt. That doesn’t mean we don’t use any hops though. We brew Amber with Goldings to add a light floral hoppy note to the taste. The subtle floral spiciness of Goldings hops in Alley Kat’s Amber beer is marvellous for pairing with meats and cheeses. We’d suggest serving it with an antipasti platter: we’re talking genoa salami, kalamata olives, provolone, and our gal Amber. Salute! I don’t know why but it’s probably been 8 years since I drank one of these I really should pick up alley Kat more often. I guess you could call the color of this brew amber but it is really dark version of it, the limited cap produced during the pour reduced to nothing very quickly. Aroma is very sweet with caramel and has the aroma of vegetable hops and on long deep inhales I can smell metallic’s. Taste is so much better then I remember the malts are sweet and thick with lots of caramel and mild hints of biscuit. The beer is way hoppier then expected which is a good thing and by good I mean fawking awesome. The bitter hops and the caramel flavor are perfectly balanced in this, so very drinkable. I think I’ll but more.

This is a sticky sweet beer that is not at all enjoyable. As the name describes itself, this is a clear amber pour, off-white head, and a nose of caramel malt, hops, and smoke. The flavour is dry, sour/bitter with some sweetness.

went to local restaurant and was surprised they had this on tap. delightfully surprised. the pint came back with an off white, medium head. colour is, well, amber. can taste a small amount of hops, and was complimented with a sweet spice. taste had a smidge of bitterness, that wasn't shunned. apparent light lacing. good brew.
