Tried at a bar. A clear mahogany coloured brew with a thin creamy light brown head. Caramel, citrus, and cereal make up most of the nose while the caramel notes dominate the flavour. Some alcohol is noticeable on the tongue.

Aroma is not strong but has tempting notes of malt and fruit with hints of molasses and toffee. It pours a clear, dark cola brown with a decent light tan head. Flavor fills the mouth with malt, caramel, wood, molasses and toffee with a subtle undertone of fruit, mainly apple and cherry. Smooth texture has plenty of fizz and leaves behind a nice malty, woody tingle.

Beautiful brew. Robust and characterful; truly bursting with flavour. Holds its 6.3% very well, but not sure if I would be able to drink it all night. Nutty, fruity, and has a wonderfully smooth, warming aftertaste.

I can imagine ale lovers in the states like this one. Drank this three times, no more. Dark and thick, so far so good. Off nose, here goes. Err, some sort of burnt malts, nasty after taste. Like big foot junior. Worst of all you know its there then next day. Not my brew.

Bottle: Poured a dark amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of light dry fruits and some dry caramel malt is mildly interesting. Taste is also a balanced mix between some medium dry figs and raisins with some notes of dry caramel malt. Body si about average with good carbonation and no signs of alcohol. I thought the aroma had some fruity ester that could have lead tom something interesting but the taste couldn't really match up with the rest -not bad overall but I won't seek this again necessarily.

Pours a deep brown/red with a small tan head. A thin layer sticks around for a while leaving some nice lacing. Smells nice, fruity and sweet. Hoppy flavour with a nutty flavour and a good bitter finish. The 6.3%abv is well hidden. Smooth mouthfeel, medium body.

Purchased at the LCBO a while ago, but has a best before date on the neck, 11 JUN 09, so I am ok. Pours a hazy indian red-caramel colour with a big creamy beige head, great retention, awesome lacing all around and minimal carbonation. Good strong scent at first, but disappears quickly, leaving only a little hop. Other things found in the taste as well, are dark fruits (raisins), roasted and caramel malts and burnt wood in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is not as heavy as expected, almost thin and watery. Goes down easy and refreshing (weird for an English strong ale).

I really have no complaints at all about this ale, a very fine example of the British tradition. Brown in colour with a thin tan head. The aroma is caramel malt, some nuttiness and a small hint of hops. The nutty flavour comes through very well with a nice bitter aftertaste, hard to believe it is 6+ percent.

The beer poured a very dark brownish red, with a thin tan head. The aroma was caramel malt, and wood. The mouthfeel was medium bodied, creamy, and medium carbonated. The flavour was caramel malt, some spice, and a little bit of hops. -

I'm warming up more and more with these English Strong Ales. An aroma of dark fruit, toffee and licorice. The flavor is really nice balanced with subtle English hops and a nice sweet malt profile which brought out some brown sugar. Finished off with a decent bitter/peppery note. Definitely would recommend this one.
