Ours is a traditional German-style Wheat Beer. We use German wheat, German barley and German hops. It is gold in color and has a soft, smooth malt character. We also use a German yeast specifically cultivated for this style of beer. It imparts extremely interesting flavors of banana, clove and spice. It is unfiltered and, therefore, cloudy as is traditional. Sgt. Schultz may know nothing – except that this is a great beer for our hot days of spring and summer.

Comes out of the tap hazy hay-golden with a fairly thick eggshell head. Strong, wheaty aroma has firm citrus and yeasty undertones plus a hint of malt. Flavor trots wheat, citrus and malt notes across the palate, with malt and a bit of hops in the background. Texture is fairly firm, smooth yet lively. You don’t have to know much to appreciate a good Hefe.

I wish this had more head, but that could be a sympton of the sample pour. The full hefeweizen glass pour that I saw after making my rating certainly had plenty of head and it lasted. Cloudy yellow. Great banana aroma. Good wheat underneath. The only problem I had with the beer is the flavor is almost too sweet.
