3677 | Amager Drei von Dänen | Denmark | Baltic Porter | 3.8
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 Shared bottle at local tasting. Black colour, moderate brown head. Strong roasty aroma, notes of coffee, tar, smoke and old rope. Smoky and tarry flavour, quite dry. Salty finish. A bit too much for me. The cognac barrel aged version was more pleasant to drink. |

3681 | Lindesnes Gahre Pilsner | Norway | Kellerbier | 2.6
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 4 500 ml bottle, thanks to gunnar. ABV is 4.7%. Some sediment in the bottle. Hazy golden colour, large white head. Sweetish aroma and flavour of not-very-successful homebrewed pilsener, grassy, yeasty and woody notes. Decent hops in the finish. Overall not good enough, for a new microbrewery aiming to build a reputation. |

3683 | Hardknott Code Black | United Kingdom | American Black Ale | 4.3
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8 500 ml shared bottle at local tasting. ABV is 5.6%. Very dark brown to black colour, large and creamy beige head. Very nice vinous aroma, also notes of fruity hops, mild roasty notes. Distinctly hoppy flavour, more piney and resinous than fruity, roasty notes (coffee). Good stuff. |

3685 | Unibroue Quelque Chose | Canada | Fruit Beer | 3.5
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7 Corked shared bottle at local tasting, bought at Ølbutikken (or was it Høkeren?), Copenhagen, may 2011. Sampled first cold, then hot. Auburn colour, no carbonation. Strong aroma of cherries, almonds, spices / spiced chutney and mulled wine. Sweet flavour, notes of cherries, spices and mulled wine. Better cold than hot. A pity there is no carbonation (bad idea). |

3687 | Hijos de Rivera Estrella Galicia | Spain | Pale Lager | 2.5
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 330 ml bottle, as Estrella Galicia Premium Lager, from REMA 1000. ABV in Norway is 4.7%. It has the black & red label of the ordinary Estrella Galicia, not the green label of Estrella Galicia Pilsen (which is 4.7% ABV even in Spain). To make further confusion, the label says in Spanish that it contains gluten (which is logical, as the beer contains barley malt), while there is also a sticker in Norwegian, saying that the beer is gluten free. I suspect the Norwegian importer may have misunderstood something here ... At any rate, the gluten content is probably fairly low, as maize (corn) is also an ingredient. Pale golden colour, large to moderate white head, nice lacing. Heineken-like "skunky" and grassy aroma (which I can’t say I find offensive), hints of citrus. Initially a fairly clean and crisp flavour ( I drank it very cold), with a distinct and rather sharp and unpleasant bitterness in the finish, metallic in the aftertaste. Little hop flavour besides the bitterness. Not a great beer, but I’d probably prefer it if the only alternatives were the blandest of Spanish supermarket pale lagers. |

3688 | Balholm Malus Domestica Dessertvin av Eple Økologisk | Norway | Cider | 3.1
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 500 ml clear bottle, from Vinmonopolet, bestillingsutvalget. ABV is 19%. The label does not say anything about this being a fortified cider / apple wine (with distilled alcohol added), nor anything about the "ice cider" method being used, but it is rather amazing if it has fermented to 19%. Yes, I added it to the BeerPal database, but I am prepared that it might have to go. Golden colour, no carbonation. The aroma is first boozy / alcoholic, after a minute in the glass the aroma is surprisingly moderate - dusty, with notes of apples of course, but not nearly as intense as I expected. The flavour, on the other hand, is definitely intense and concentrated, loads of sweet apples, oak and alcohol, hints of young sherry. Okay to accompany apple pie and ice cream for dessert, I guess - but I doubt that I will buy this apple wine again. |

3689 | HaandBryggeriet Sundland Kreosot | Norway | American Black Ale | 3.9
Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.7%. Pitch black colour, large and lasting brown head. Interesting aroma: smoke, tar, roasted malts and fruity hops. The flavour is roasty and smoked, with fruity hops in the background. Not too bitter. I would probably like it even better with less smoked malts and a little more hops, but then it would be a different beer ... As it is, it is certainly worth sampling. |

3690 | Mikkeller / Three Floyds Boogoop | Denmark | American Barleywine | 4.4
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Amber colour, moderate head, slightly off-white. Lovely aroma of fruity and resinous American hops, malts in the background. Excellent and well balanced flavour, distinct American hops throughout, but not too extreme. There is a sufficient malty backbone to support the hops. Not too sweet. Jolly good! |

3691 | Nøgne Ø Imperial Stout Cognac Barrel | Norway | Imperial Stout | 4.6
Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 250 ml bottle, kindly shared by Odland. Sampled at room temperature. Pitch black colour, creamy brown head. Strong aroma of cognac oak barrel, some roasty notes too. Well rounded flavour, roasty of course, dark chocolate and coffee, the cognac and oak are there, but not overwhelming. Excellent beer. |

3692 | Little Valley Python | United Kingdom | IPA | 2.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3 330 ml sample bottle, a gift, as Little Valley Organic Python IPA. Brew #207, BB date 19.06. 2011. ABV is 6.0%. Cloudy brownish golden colour, large white head. Strong lemony and acidic / vinegary aroma, also hints of wild yeast / farmhouse. The flavour is very acidic, lemony and vinegary, with a sharp hoppy biiterness in the finish. This is the second beer past its BB date I’ve had from Little Valley, they have both gone sour. Apparently you should not even CONSIDER drinking their beers if they are past their BB date. Will rerate if I can find a fresh bottle. |

3693 | Thwaites IPA Indus Pale Ale | United Kingdom | English Pale Ale | 3.7
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, from Ica Kilden, Hillevåg, Stavanger. ABV is 4.6%. Clear deep golden colour, large white head. Moderate but okay aroma of (primarily British?) hops, some fruit, malts and toffee in the background, hints of dust. The flavour is distinctly hoppy throughout, and "typically British" (= far from an American IPA), balanced by a moderate malty and toffee sweetness, with a citrussy and medium bitter finish. Quite enjoyable. |

3694 | Williams Brothers March of the Penguins | United Kingdom | Stout | 3.9
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 500 ml bottle, a gift. ABV is 4.9%. Black colour, large to moderate brown head, nice lacing. The aroma has moderate roasty notes (mild coffee, chocolate and liquorice), also strong fruity and acidic notes (hops, lemons and orange peel), hints of coriander. The aroma seems a bit misplaced, but that might just be due to old habit. Smooth flavour, very pleasant to drink, mild roasty notes. Not much acidity in the flavour, just a hint of orange peel in the background. Moderate hops. Not sure if I could identify the coriander, if I did not know that it should be there. Don’t know if March of the Penguins will be imported to Norway (most other WB beers are, so it is likely that it will) - I would buy again. |

3695 | Matuška Weizenbock | Czech Republic | Weizenbock | 3.5
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 Shared 750 ml bottle at local tasting, thanks to gunnar. ABV is 6.3%. The bottle had been open a while, but I’ll rate the beer as if it had a normal carbonation (which reports confirm it had when opened). Amber colour. Unusual spicy aroma, notes of coriander and banana. Spicy flavour, some banana. A fairly decent beer. Will rerate if I can find a fresh bottle. |

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 Shared bottle at local tasting. ABV is 7.5%. Deep golden colour, large white head. Lovely aroma of Simcoe hops, notes of citrus fruit, pine and resin, and not more catpiss than you need to say purrrr. Distinctly hoppy flavour, notes of grapefruit and pine needles. A very fine single hop IPA. |

Pitch black colour, large brown head. Roasty and vinous aroma, hints of brettanomyces, moderate notes of Scotch whisky and leather. The flavour is roasty and oaky, hints of brettanomyces with a slight acidity in the finish. |

3699 | Goose Island Bourbon County Vanilla Stout | United States | Imperial Stout | 3.9
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8 Vintage 2010, shared bottle at local tasting. ABV is 13%. Black colour, hardly any head. Intense aroma of concentrated malts and fusel alcohols, vanilla and bourbon. The fusel brings the aroma score down. Intense and complex flavour, much better than the aroma, loads of vanilla, chocolate, roasted malts and bourbon, sweet but not too much. |

3700 | Mort Subite Oude Gueuze (Fond) | Belgium | Gueuze | 3.8
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 Shared bottle at local tasting. Deep golden colour, low white head. Lovely and beguiling aroma of brettanomyces lambicus, white wine vinegar and farmhouse. Sour and acidic flavour, clean, lemony and vinegary - but (in a perverted sense): GOOD! |
