General Beer Discussion by AABREWER318
Hi, I'm new here at BeerPal so whatsup everybody. Cheers! I have a couple reviews under my belt and hopefully more to come. So i was just curious about Saranac beer and if its available in other parts of the country. Its made here in New York.....by the Matt Brewing company. They make a nice (bottled) black and tan and a good pale ale. A nice basic lager too, real clean, without that "budweiser aftertaste". Its a favorite of mine because of the great value and its widely available over here in the supermarkets for a great price. They also sell these 'trail mix' packs that are just great. Anybody else into the Saranac?

Hi, AA--and welcome! Looks like you're getting off to a good start here on the best and friendliest beer site on the planet. You can guage BeerPal members' interest in Saranac products easily. Just go to the beer vault and search on Saranac. You'll see all the variations that have been identified and rated. If you like the Black and Tan, click on it--and then you'll see all the BeerPal reviews. I live in Northern Virginia, and Saranac is available here. I've tried the mixed 12. I thought the Roggen Bock was outstanding. I also enjoyed the Black Forest. While visiting Newport, RI, I tried the Red Parrot Pale Ale, and thought it tasty, so I asked the fair waitress where it is brewed. Turns out, it's Saranac's Pale Ale contract brewed for the Red Parrot. Again, welcome! Your region is famous for outstanding craft-brewed beer, and I hope you continue to share your observations here in the forum and in the vault. Foam
Hello, and welcome to Beerpal aabrewer318! It is always good to see new members. Unfortunately I have not had any of Saranac and have not seen it here in Georgia probably because it may not be distributed here. However, FoamDome is correct, all you need to do is search and look at the reviews on the different styles from Saranac. Many members like it and like their different types they produce. Let me know how they are, but of course, I could just look up Saranac beer and find out. P.S. Welcome once again!!

In Reply To #1 Hello, Welcome to beerpal! I live in the northeast so Saranac is easily obtainted. I'm a big fan of their beers, nice quality and great value. Actually, I'd say they might be one of the best as far as quality for what you pay. Their Pale Ale is solid as well as their IPA. I also really enjoyed their mix packs (There's a thread in here on mix packs and this was discussed there too) as they had a large variety and some very interesting brews. I've reviewed quite a bit and feel free to check out my beerpage for reviews on them. Happy drinking! SC
In Reply To #1 Welcome to the site. For me, Saranac has failed to impress me. I enjoyed a couple of their beers (Black Forest, Roggenbock), but for the most part there are better examples of each of their beers out there. If you like their beers though, look for Cooperstown Brewing Co. They are in Milford, NY, and have English styled beers. The Pride of Milford and Benchwarmer Porter are very good, and the rest of their line isn't bad either. Brooklyn Brewery produces some excellent beers as well. NY has several other good breweries, keep an eye peeled for Brooklyn, Cooperstown, Ommegang, and Middle Ages. Once again, welcome, hope you continue to enjoy the site.

In Reply To #1 Greetings, I live about 30 minutes from the Saranac brewery. Their tour is very good and the have an impressvive victorian style tasting room. I have tried many many of their beers, and enjoy them all. The Black Forest, B&T and there ESB are all among my favs. Even their light is good in both its incarnations The current Saranac light and their first try a few years ago DAX light. NY has many good beers to try I encourage you to check them out.

Get their mixed 12 pack. You'll be able to try a WIDE variety of beers and it should only cost 10 bucks or so.
