Rye beer or spiced beer or something else?

Website Comments by JLOZIER

I have a beer that I wanted to add. However, the classification leaves me really stumped. It is labeled as a "smoked rye ale brewed with chili peppers." So what is it? The brewer's website says it is a Chili Beer. To which circle of the Inferno should I eternally damn this thing?

That's very interesting and disturbing at the same time. I think I would rather stop chasing after great beer than to have to start running. Keep on drinking and running !
I have no idea how he drinks AND runs, assuredly not at the same time.

I work full time, really. An have 2 kids. And train & run lots too...which leads to mass amounts of tastings because runners and beer are like PB&J. Case in point...tomorrow morning's Carlsbad 5000, where the American Record looks to fall, finishes at a beer garden in the street in front of Pizza Port brewing. [:D] Kinda excited. The volume of beer related trips I've taken over the last month or so is, unfortunately, not normal. Next month is a little bit of back to the real world after Beer Week in Sacramento, racin then runnin around Portland with Travis aka Phishpond, and 5 days in San Diego/Carlasbad. It's been a good month. But, I'ma gonna get my ass kicked tomorrow, even with my disciplined 5 oz pour this morning. We're gonna light this town up after the run.
So, what do you actually do for a living? ;) LOL. I concur with your running being compatible with, if not promoting of drinking (after). Cycling is the same way. But you forgot to mention a highly supportive wife of this endeavor of yours. I suspect that she affords you these opportunities and the time to chase all this stuff down. I know mines is like that, although I've lost the drive to chase down beers left and right and only opportunistically take the opportunity anymore here and there. Either way you look at it, slowrunner is a terror of a rater!

It's also good for someone to point out that our friend "Slowrunner" is "slow" in the same way a Ducati Monster is slow next to a Kawasaki Ninja. I mean, I run too, but I am more of a Harley Road King kinda guy. "Slowrunner" is a modest name for a gifted and dedicated athlete.

Another observation about slowrunner: His enthusiasm about craft beer never wanes. There have been times on this site where topics have been stagnant and Chris has injected a relentless fervor into forums which can be contagious. It's in his personality to be intense. His eagerness is genuine.

Thanks Dave and Lou. My wife is great. She shares a fondness for beer, just at a lower level. She likes her red wine quite a bit. She has become a runner/triathlete in the last year or so as well, so life can be hectic, but she allows me my obsessions for sure. I am a librarian. Actually went to school to teach health/PE & coach, but debt/loans crept up and I ended up working at gyms for a couple years before getting in full time with the county libraries where I had some job experience from my teen years. It's ok. Sometimes.
