Beer Discussion by SLOWRUNNER77
BeerPal Notice: This topic was created for discussion of the beer Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA.
This was already a great deal as a $4.50-5 bomber.
Coming soon to a shelf near you...in a 6-pack!!!
Safe to say this is going to be my go-to beer of 2014.
As long as the distributors/retailers keep it fresh.
Awesome brew. At 1.25-1.50 per!!

Clash, are you saying we're a bunch of old farts? [?][B)] [:D] I gladly wear my charcoal filtered boxers with pride. The Knoxville area craft beer scene is kind of what Clash is eluding to: younger, some hipsters, some extreme snobbery, but also within some of the younger crowd are some very cool beer folks that are wide open about sharing, learning and cultivating good beer relationships. I went to a tasting/sharing Wednesday evening and this is what these "youngsters" shared: Rogue New Crustacean Barleywineish Imperial IPA Sorta Half Acre Heyoka Almanac Bourbon Sour Porter Surly Furious Prairie Artisan Prairie Bomb Almanac Biere de Chocolat Olde Hickory Irish Walker Surly Smoke Evil Twin Imperial Doughnut Break (aka The Cop Beer) Jester King Salt Lick (Censored) Deschutes The Abyss (2012) Rivertown Triumvirate Evil Twin Imperial Biscotti Break Bourbon Barrel Aged Prairie Artisan Pirate Bomb Three Floyds dark Lord (2012) Anderson Valley Wild Turkey Bourbon Barrel Stout It was a good evening. But back to the point: one of the sharers in particular has gotten under my skin before with beer snobbery and negativity about other drinkers' opinions. I've called him out on it too. I'm just here for the beer.[:)]

It's why I've turned my back on "tastings" in general. The pretentious nature of craft beer has reached a boiling point to where I can no longer find joy in drinking beer with strangers who want to ensure that everyone knows how much they know about craft beer, and if you don't share their opinion of a particular beer, then you no nothing. So like Thorogood sings, I drink alone. Or I drink with my friends who don't give a rip that I love craft beer and they don't. I do miss hanging out with guys like Steve A. from High Water and Craig from Schooners and Dave H. from Stone. Guys like beerguy101 should be the norm, but sadly they aren't.

Stout, my favorite "beer shares" are at 1) The Hootenanny where the guest list is of my choosing (and there is always a cooler of New Glarus beers that someone brings), 2) when I get the rare pleasure of visiting Pfoxyjohn and the Wisconsin Beer Mafia, and 3) a small group of local friends who appreciate craft beers without being so damned pretentious. Just good people drinking good beers. A lot of times I drink just by myself at my house on my deck. Some beers are meant to be shared though - just too damn good or big to drink by myself. [8D]

That. If you let the snobs/hipsters. etc decide your drinking habits, then the terrorists WIN!!!! I get more joy out of a great beer, or ,ore fun out of a truly horrid one, that is shared. It's funny when I get a trade beer that is better than expected (and I drank it solo) I try to get it again just so I can share the experience. I did that with Nugget Nectar, but when I found it again, it wasn't terribly fresh, so my buddies though I was full of shit [;)]

Agreed. Which is why I avoid the tasting with people who I don't know on a first name basis anymore. The guys who I drink with are more concerned about which tunes I'm playing than what beer I'm drinking (thank goodness). I'll leave the RateBeer mass gatherings/tastings to those that dig that scene. Give me a firepit, give me 4-5 cd's of Clapton or SRV, 3-4 friends and 12-15 beers and there's my tasting. Not drooling on a damn notepad or typing shit into your phone. Been there, done that..in my past.

Or all of that and a keg of something great that you already "tasted" and just flat out love. Right now, Sculpin!
