Mikkeller Big Worster

Beer Discussion by SLOWRUNNER77

BeerPal Notice: This topic was created for discussion of the beer Mikkeller Big Worster. Just an FYI to the admins. Not a lot of info on this beer out there (it is not one of the barreled editions) and although all i found on-line (even pictures of the label) said it was 18.3-18.9% abv, the label on the bottle we had in front of us said 17.3%, so that's how it was entered.

Oooooh I hate Mikkeller. Not for the beer quality but all the confusing names and labels, many different versions, many different contract breweries, abv variations, constantly teaming up with 5 different breweries to make one beer. Mikkeller should be assigned as a rookie admin hazing [^]

Sounds like the Euro version of an Oregon brewer I know of...

Yup, like throwing two Schlafly Pumpkins in the backpack while escorting the kids around for Halloween. Is there another occassion? Maybe a warmup beer for an Autumn tailgate. Beyond that the only spices I like to imbibe come in a Wit or nice Saison, spring to fall.

There's something about Belgian Christmas beers for me that really hits home Nov-Dec every year. I really look forward to seeing these on the shelf.

YES. I love several american holiday brews, but there are several Belgians that I get every year. So far I've got Jubelale, Old Jubilation, Celebration... Looking forward to Anchor and the Belgians, and maybe Hibernation (my favorite Old Ale) if it shows up.

I'm in no hurry to get past the pumpkin and harvest ales, but there WAS snow on the ground the other day...

Through the holidays, there's usually some GL Christmas Ale in the fridge, for when the mood hits, and I'll grab some others here and there. I really enjoyed Troeg's Mad Elf and Hoppin'Frog's Christmas Ale last year. Schlafly's Christmas is way too spicy for my taste. I'm usually a "drink american" guy, but for the season I love Samuel Smith's Winter Welcome!

I've literally gagged on some fresher big spiced beers, whether it's just loaded with a bunch of cheap powder, or just too rindy & sweet. Though I've had a couple spiced beers & braggots that have been awesome with a year on it. Mellow & easy. With old ales I'm completely the other way around. I like them young & fresh. I guess I'm sensitive to oxidation, gives me a headache sometimes. Love me some eisbock though. That just screams winter for me.
