AC Golden

Brewery Discussion by PHISHPOND417

For me, one of the standout breweries from the GABF 2013 week in Denver last week was by far, AC Golden. For all of you who aren't familiar with them, AC Golden is a specialty brewing subdivision of SABMiller and Coors that focuses on smaller batch, craft beer. I don't know much more about them than that. We were invited by the brewmaster a while back to take a tour of the facility but that changed when Troy, the brewmaster was selected as one of the judges for the GABF competition. I sampled over a dozen of their beers between the 3 days at GABF and the "What The Funk!? Festival" that was hosted by Chad Yakobson of Crooked Stave in downtown Denver. At WTF!?, ACGolden featured their Colorambic, a lambic base for several of their fruit lambics. I was able to try all of their fruit lambics throughout the night- Apricot, Cherry, Raspberry, Gooseberry and Strawberry. All of them released on the hour, one after another, each getting better and better throughout the night. At GABF, they featured other wild beers, a Vienna lager and a Berliner Weiss. The only one I didn't care for was the Berliner, too much burnt hair on the nose, an unfortunate too common of a problem for a lot of breweries using a certain lacto source. Why am I sharing all of this? Well, the beers were fucking solid and with the exception of WTF!?, which consisted of the most geekiest of beer geeks, ACGolden had ZERO lines at the GABF. And their beer was probably some of the best at the fest, in my opinion. I anticipate they may make more of a presence at some of the bigger beer festivals some of you beer lovers may attend, so that's why I encourage you to check them out and make up your own minds about the beer rather than shrugging them off because- "it's fucking Coors, man. Don't go there."- a comment I heard way too many times that weekend. The brewers were incredibly educated on their craft albeit extremely introverted. But hey- it's the beer industry, mostly everybody in the industry is an introvert. Anyway, I thought I'd share this with y'all. Looks like Slowrunner has had a few of their beers. Anybody else try some?

If the Bengals have a 78 now, that's just blasphemous...

78 may not be formally retired, but no Bengal on a regular season roster has worn it since Munoz.

Steelers don't retire numbers either, but unofficially no one will ever wear number 12, 32 or 75.

quote: quote: Originally posted by Stoutlover72 I'll add to the Bengals retired number list: Boomer Esiason - 7 David Fulcher - 33 (one of the first huge safeties that looked like a LB)
If we're going to retire any Bengals QB's numbers, it has to start with #14 Ken Anderson, who really does belong in the HOF. A case could be made for Boomer, sure. Great "field general," been known to throw a block now and then, and master of the play-action fake... which he learned from the Bengals' original #14... watch some Sam Wyche highlights some time (Wyche had highlights?) and you'll see a very familiar-looking play fake! Boomer was a very talented QB, but his career was made by Sam Wyche's brain! On the defensive side, I loved watching Fulcher play, great hitter! He was really the prototype for Troy Polamalu! (Oh, wait, is that Dick LeBeau I see on the sideline?) How about #69, Tim Krumrie? 152 tackles (in '88) would be remarkable for any defensive player, but a nose tackle? I thought a nose tackle was supposed to occupy blockers to keep the linebackers clean. Career stats (all with the Bengals, 1983-1994): 1,017 tackles (700 solo), 34.5 sacks (-238.0 yards), 13 fumble recoveries, 11 forced fumbles and 10 passes defensed. Not too shabby for a 10th round draft pick! Or #13, Ken "The Rattler" Riley, 1969-1983. He ended his career with 65 interceptions, passing his position coach (there's LeBeau again) for 4th on the all-time list. Twice had 3 INTs in a game. Never made a Pro Bowl, go figure!

#70 Ernie Stautner, DT, 1950-1963, all with Steelers. Number retired in 1964, elected to HOF in 1969. [:D]

List of all retired numbers on NFL.com http://www.nfl.com/history/retirednumbers NFL retired numbers in 2013: Eagles #5, Donovan McNabb. Niners #80, Jerry Rice - Interesingly, when Rice played for the Seahawks in 2004, he was permitted to wear Steve Largent's already-retired #80. Bears #89, Mike Ditka. The team has announced that it will be the last number they retire. Just one player has had his number retired by 2 teams, Reggie White #92 by both Packers and Eagles.

Ahhhhhh.... Reggie.... What good memories.... Good dude, even if publically a little over the top. Even if I wasn't a man of faith, I'd still take his over the top instead of that of 99% of the others in the league.
