Prohibition Stories
General Beer Discussion by MATTFUNGUS
Due to circumstances I have been saddled with putting together a public presentation on Prohibition (the speaker cant make it). I have only two days. Fortunately I know a few fun stories. Like the budweiser clydesdale were used for the first time by Anheiser Busch to deliver the first case of bud to fdr after prohibition had been repealed. I know that in Wisconsin prohibition never ceased the production of alcohol and especially beer. I actually portrayed a lighthouse keeper who took a bunch of visiting lighthouse keepers around to the speakeasies on the mainland only to find out they were federal agents. I am interested in your favorite prohibition stories, especially if they are personal or about wisconsin/the midwest, but everyone here will certainly be amused at what you might have to offer.

when i visited the Spoetzl brewery (Shiner Bock) the guild told us that they stayed afloat by selling ice and NA beer, but sometimes forgot to add that process when making the employee/friend/family run of beer...

Not sure it was such a fun time back then. With Prohibition, hundreds of thousands of people lost their livelyhood, Evangelical lobbyists ruled, poor folk resorted to drinking bathtub poison and the elite still got their booze making us look like a bunch of hipocrites to the world. Not to mention organized crime got a huge boost. I know what you mean though. No amusing stories that I know of.

This. Actually the only Prohibition story I am privy to locally (family lore) is that my great-grandfather, grandfather and great uncles made LOTS of apple brandy and hard apple cider one year during Prohibition after a bumper crop of apples. This was done back in the hollers of Oakdale, Morgan Co., TN, a very remote area for certain.

I had Apple Pie Moonshine while watching Justified last week - does THAT count?
