Neither! Matt's got a point. I have lived in Iowa (lots of farms) and Nebraska (lots of ranches). They are not the same. My kids used to like ranch dressing as a veggie dip when they were in elementary school. Not a lot of "ranch" comes home from the grocery store these days. As for wings, super spicy hot, and dipped in bleu cheese. With celery on the side. The single-story ranch home is popular where ever stairs are not. And, whenever I hear ranch, the first thing I think of is Chicken http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken_Ranch_(Nevada)

I'd like it on record that I don't actually dip my WINGS in anything (except maybe more hot sauce). I'm with Curtis on that. If you need blue cheese, ranch, anything else besides the sauce on your wings, then they ain't worthy. Like puttin a lime in Corona. [;)]But I never ever ever ever heard of Ranch dressing (4 veggie dipping...sometimes pizza crust) til I moved out west in '89. All blue cheese on the right coast (though it's slowly changed there as well...).
