funny thats that famous san francisco piece of film. Opposite side of country. The thing that bugs me about titanic is how men were considered awful if they survived, even 20 years later. One story I heard on npr was a man who was verbally attacked at a survivors reunion 20 years later. He stood up and said, "I was 9 at the time...." Yet he still felt guilty for surviving.

Which is why I didn't post a serious documentary! Jaime Brockett was a late '60s/early '70s New England folksinger. This tune is VERY loosely based on Howlin' Wolf's song about it. Brockett's other song of minor notoriety was, "Talkin' Green Beret New Super Yellow Hydraulic Banana Teenybopper Blues" Kinger, surely you didn't expect me to be serious about anything but beer and libertarianism!

I don't understand the new 3D movie... I thought it sank in 3D the first time.

I have to agree somewhat about overkill on the topic of Titanic. There was lots and lots of media attention as well as the release of the 3-D movie. However, there is another side of things. For some of us the Titanic is something (at least in our family) to remember. My great grandmother Manning was a 3rd class passenger on the Titanic. Her maiden name, though, was Gilnagh. She didn't often speak of the Titanic but when she did she always told us to remember those that lost their lives, particularly a young man she called "Jimmy." Jimmy was James Farrell. He came from the same area in Ireland that my great grandmother came from. He was able to get my great grandmother and several of her traveling companions to the lifeboats. He did not survive the sinking, but great grandmother never forgot his act of heroism. So even though great grandmother has been gone for over 35 years we still stop and remember her and others.....and lift a glass to them.

are you guys kidding me.. i think most of you pay to much attention to "the media" unplug i heard a few stories on tv and saw that the 3d titanic was out.. i peronally love reading and hearing about the titanic but really didn't hear much, not even close to being overkill (the travolyn martin story is overkill) ... i guess i have a life outside tv...

I agree with Canandaigua75 The Titanic should be remembered. The event marked the end of the edwardian age and helped usherin the modern era. My wife and I had the opportunity to sail over the last known position of the ship. 49 56 49 degrees west Longitude 41 43 35 n Latitude is in the open sea but it is a place of solitude and reverence. I raised a pint to all those on board. The folks in steerage who came looking for a better life and the stokers who kept the power going to the lights and the telegraph knew their fate but stayed at their posts. Yes there has been a media blitz but it is an opportunity to learn

If you are looking for a good unplugged way to learn of the Titanic I suggest reading A night to Remember and The night goes on by Walter Lord. Because of the Titanic Sea travel is safer. Life boat regs were improved and updated. Icebergs are now monitored. The first SOS was sent from the Titanic Yes I am a maritime history geek.

cool thing. Here in green bay there is a tomb for Dr. William Minnahan who was one of the wealthy passengers who didnt survive. Yesterday as I drove by it I saw a dozen white roses hanging on the front door of the tomb. Obviously they had been put out for the anniversary.
