Sierra Nevada Hoptimum

Beer Discussion by SLOWRUNNER77

BeerPal Notice: This topic was created for discussion of the beer Sierra Nevada Hoptimum. (http://beerpal.com/Sierra-Nevada-Hoptimum-Beer/40756/) I hope to try this soon, and am eager to see the reception it gets. Sierra Nevada has climbed in my eyes over the last year or so, though still not quite a favorite. This brew left Chico over the past week on it's way to stores nationwide. Cheers!

what the cake?! is it on sale (already)? prices for this are all over the map! $7.49, $7.99 in reno. roseville bevmo...$7.99. roseville totalwine (usually cheaper than or the same as bevmo)...$9.99! At $5.99 I'd get a few. Nice find.

Just found shelves and shelves of it at my BevMo. Not a bad price either at $5.99. Gonna crack mine open here in bit.

On my 2nd bottle right now and WOOOOOWWWWWWW. What a freakin' phenomenal beer. Really, for an IIPA...nearly perfect in every way.[:p]

Had it once and will get another shot at a second bottle it appears. But, the first time around: really grapefruity and not bitter enough. Reminded me of the DFH90. Nothing special in these neck of woods. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it. Just not worth all the hype and rarity nonsense. But, such is the story for most "rare" beers.

Forgive me ef, but.. can you elaborate a little more on the hype and rarity you speak of? Honestly, I had no idea it was rare or hyped. Just a new IIPA from SN is what I knew about. The 3 BevMo's I go to had shelves and shelves of this stuff, so is it rare because it's not getting distributed outside California?

The distribution was a bit like the DFH/SN collaboration beers out here. Allotment limited with most places lucky if they got a single case. They mostly didn't hit the shelves. And, even big boy outlets only got an extra case or so.... completely disproportionate to the amount of SN$$$ they push through on a regular basis. So, out here it was way hard to get a hold of short of a direct connection.

Ahh. I guess I was clueless about the lack of availability outside of California. Rarity/hype aside, I thought it was a great beer for the price. Wish more people would make a product like this and keep it for as inexpensive as it was.

But to your point.... Take all that hype and rarity aside here.... it was a darned nice beer, and I'd like to have it again... if it was as gettable as a ruination or dfh90, etc.... Easy to see my post as misleading and bashing. I love SN. Just hate the rarity and hype around any beer. SN is one of my favorite - if not favorite - highly available brewers!

Hoptimum 4-packs!!! 48 ounces and 4 servings for a buck or so more than one bottle cost last year! Love it.
