Planning a Road Trip Next Summer

Beer Swapping by CYBERCAT

Next summer in late June and early July I will be driving - yes, driving - from Atlanta up to Portland, Oregon. I'd love to make some trades en route, and know of some good places where I can fetch some great beers. My plans are not set in concrete yet, and though I'd like to take the most direct route between the two cities, I am willing to travel a little out of the way to visit a great beer shop, or make a swap or three.

Sounds like St. Louis, Kansas City (and definitely the BP crew there!), and Denver are all on the way... even the beer mecca of Salt Lake City!!!... Just make sure you don't haul any beer across that state's line if you go there!!! Top it off with Portland? Whamo! Have fun.

Getting busted in Utah sucks! Don't worry about transporting beer though. For sure stop in at some breweries and try some great beers if you get the chance.

OK, it's getting closer to when I'll be making my trip. I plan to leave Atlanta Friday, 24 June, to arrive in Portland on the following Monday. I will leave Portland on the 5th of July. Does that help anyone?

What's different hauling beer into Utah that's different from any other state? Is it pentaly by death or something?

That's a lot of driving. I should be moving out of Portland the weekend before you arrive at the latest. Have fun!

Years ago, a guy on RB got a pulled over for speeding in Utah and they confiscated his beer that he was set to trade on a cross country trip. I had some confiscated at the Canadian border once because I had more than two cases worth.

Yep, that's the extent of it. Lots of things you can't do in Utah. And whatever you do, DO NOT get caught dancing! Because we all know what dancing leads too..............

St. Louis, MO was a beer mecca... so many beers, so little time.

Definitely don't drive naked in Utah. They frown on that too, especially if you have sheep in the car with you.

They actually care about and enforce the law in UT w.r.t. carrying beer in from other states. Seen many a thread about this on beer and even non-beer sites. Dumb. I work in MD and live in DE. I carry beers each way back and forth. The only reason they would care is for the sake of taxes, which is no big deal relative to the income taxes that get exchanged between the states on me. UT actually cares cuz it is alcohol and they'd like to make enjoyment of alcohol as hard as possible on people.
