The NHL Lockout.....
Non-Beer Discussion by OIZNOP
Does anyone care??....Just curious....I for one used to be a hockey fan in my younger days.....What irks me about this hockey lockout is not the players nor is it the owners....IT'S THE FANS....I don't see (at least here in Pittsburgh) the anger, the "I will never go to another game again" or the "bunch of crybaby millionaires" hatred and mentality that I would otherwise see during a baseball work stoppage....That to me is very hypocritical of the fans around here......but regarding the big picture, I don't really care, nor would I care if the Penguins left town and did not get a new arena.....Somehow, paying for a ticket to a game that now cost 60 dollars that will probably go up to 90 dollars once a new arena is built is just not appealing....
I know someone out there is going to respond "well the owenrs are all united in trying to fix the game unlike the owners in baseball who just tow the line to appease George Steinbrenner"......My response to that is, I still think that there would be anamosity among the fan base, at least here in Pittsburgh, even if the MLB owners were as united as the NHL owners.....Why, I don't know...It must be the mentality around here, or that people in Pittsburgh like Hockey more..because we havn't had a winner in baseball here for a very long time.....or that baseball has had labor problems for a longer time..I think that if the MLB did not avert a strike in 2002, that that fan base would be totally pissed off....Granted, there are those out there who say they need to shut it down to get it straightened out...But by the same token, those are the same people who say "they strike again, I am done, finnished..F baseball!"....Pretty hypocritical if you ask me..I just know what I see from observation.....I look forward to everyone's response to this....

In Reply To #1 I care ,and I miss the season. On the one hand you've got the owners, their the ones throwiing bags of money at fourth liners. Then what happens?..Huh?..Well I'll tell ya.All the other little fourth liners start flapping their arms anad yelling"Hey, I play as bad as that guy ,gimme a raise."And speaking of the players ..Even with a cap.. you'll still make a helluva lot more than anybody who's paying to see you play, but you know that ,don't you. As for the missing rage, mine was in the first paragraph, in case you missed it.Hockey like everthing else has it's business side. But for the sport to run smoothly, the business must run smoothly and vice versa. Both sides created this situation that is obviously detrimental to the sport. We as fans love the game, and we will be satisfied with minor league, college league, any league until we can see the best play again. They know will be back.So the rage is pointless and a waste of energy. Energy that could be better used to get up and drink a beer. Later.
OK, OK...I'll say it. I'll never go to another hockey game again. With that being said, I'll also say that I've never been to a hockey game. I would probably go to a minor league game, but not NHL. Same as with pro baseball, football and basketball. I used to go to professional games, but since both of the closest pro teams damn near doubled their ticket prices to pay for new stadiums which the PUBLIC actually paid for, I vowed not to give those bastards another penny of mine.
In Reply To #8 They know will be back.So the rage is pointless and a waste of energy.. The rage wasn't pointless or a waste of energy when baseball had work stoppages...The rage was rampant....Which is the point I am trying to make.....It doesn't make sense to me... Oiz

Who cares? Who cares? Hockey is just digging its own grave. If you must go see a game, try minor league hockey. I think there is a team near most half-way decent size cities? I follow the Grand Rapids Griffins, AAA afilliate of the Red Wings. Its the next best thing, and alot cheaper. Cheaper tickets mean more beer, more beer means a watchable sport, a watchable sport means, a hell of a good time. Visit a team near you. Forget the NHL, its buried... Kissmybass
Hockey is the only sport I am down to, and for a ton of reasons, including tattoo's, braided hair, gang clothing and the lack of the english language and the lack of education to name a few, and I miss it a hell of alot. I have been watching College Hockey because I have Minnesota and North Dakota in my back yard but not enough games for me. It will be a long winter!

In Reply To #12 Tattoo's, braided hair and gang clothing? And you're using these terms to describe HOCKEY? LOL Sure you aren't talking about the NBA?
In Reply To #13 I think that's what he means SC....The hip-hop culture has infiltrated itself into the NBA and the NFL, with the corn rows, tatoos, body piercings and other assorted goofy looking hair dues..of course taking a hit in the NFL with body piercings could be pretty hazerdous to onces health......Thank God that crap has not infiltrated my favorite sport, Baseball, like it has the NBA or the NFL.....The worst I have seen in Baseball are the goofy haircuts sported by the Boston Red Sox, but that's really it.....As for the NBA, you can thank Dennis Rodman (a fine citizen...Blech!) for starting that shit!.... In Reply To #14 I see... Don't be bashing the "goofy" haircuts by the Red Sox now! Naw... it's okay. Damon, Ramirez and Martinez looked a little goofy at times this year. but that's their character.

In Reply To #15 Oiz is right, Barney fife was referring to the NBA. Hes right about the observation of the NBA, I just wouldnt have said it like that. The only haircut on the RedSox I dispised was Bronson Arroya's. Pedro needs a haircut too. But he's earned it. Bronson no way!(besides the cornrows on him look gay) Kissmybass
