Can the Miami Heat buy a championship?

Non-Beer Discussion by CYRENAICA

I'm not a huge NBA fan (I prefer the NCAA game by far) but all this nonsense over the last 7 days seems so anti-climactic now. I've watched several teams in the NHL try and buy teams over the years without success, and the Yankees have been buying teams for the last decade with no success between 2001 and 2008. Can a team buy a championship in the NBA? (Are there any huge basketball fans here?)

I say no simply because it takes more than 3 players to field a championship team. Those Bulls teams of the 90's, sure they had Michael and Pippen but they also had Steve Kerr, Rodman(for the last 3 championships) and Toni Kukoc, whom was constantly winning the 6ht man award. This Heat team outside the big 3 do not have near the fill in players that the Bulls had. I am sure they are other teams one can also site; the Bulls were the first team to come to mind :)
I would say that 99% of the NBA teams that have won a championship has had fantastic supporting players to compliment it's stars. In the 80's, the Celtics had DJ, Danny Ainge, and Archibald. The Lakers had Cooper, Worthy, Kareem, Thompson, etc. You mentioned the Bulls supporting players. The Lakers would not have one their championships earlier in the 2000's if not for Fisher or Horry. There's only 1 basketball and only 1 person can shoot it at a time. So they have 3 All-Stars. I still don't see them matching up with the Lakers big men, or the athleticism of the Magic. The Heat has some bad mojo coming with this manufactured b.s.

There is some psychological research that indicates people know when they are overpaid. Their response? Under-performance! I don't recall authors off the top of my head but if anyone is interested I can look up some articles. If the research is accurate, one would expect all this unwarranted hype to sink in and for LeBron, the self-anointed King, to have his worst year ever next year at Miami. I see a slump coming!

I can see that peer pressure being a motivating factor though. Once a superstar gets his/her payday, what motivates them to play at a higher level? Money? A coach? I think in the end it's the respect they get from their peers and there are 2 other All-Stars on that team so I can see them all trying to live up to their status. At least for the first few years.

So much for my- Brett Favre holding a press conference at the same time announcing his retirement and return to football to see who wins the battle of the egos, prediction.

LOL. I still despise Favre more... probably cuz I watch and love football, while the NBwhateveritis barely exists in my life.

Talk about motivation, the Cleveland owner's letter to the fans was ridiculous... he promised/guaranteed a Cleveland championship before Lebron, the King, gets one? I hope he has a plan for that short of injury sabatoge, a-la Nancy Kerrigan and her buddy Tanya (and husband).
