Whiskey/Bourbon

Non-Beer Discussion by STOUTLOVER72

Any good recommendations for under $30? Some of my favorites are Elijah Craig, Woodfords Reserve, Maker's Mark, Buffalo Trace, etc. Been looking at some bottles from distillers like Elmer T. Lee, Ezra Brooks, Old Forester and Johnny Drum but wanted some other opinions if anyone has some to offer up. Also looking for some Irish whiskey opinions. Been looking at Tullamore and Kilbeggan which are in my price range, but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I don't know much about Bourbon or Scotch, but my knowledge of Irish whiskey rivals what I know about Wisconsin beer. ... Sláinte!
Many, many thanks John for you thoughts. I will steer away for now on Tullamore and Kilbeggan and look for something else. The one thing I don't want to do is lay down some big coin for something I just dabble in every now and then. I might only go through 3-4 bottles of whiskey/scotch a year, so I tend to start slow so if it's something really harsh then I can either suffer through it or give it to guests. Keep 'em coming.

ditto. garbage on both.

Rebel Yell-can't beat it for the $$. Won't hurt ya unless you are a yankee. Then all bets off...

Might try Yukon Jack. If you want swill, it mixes well with Dr. Pepper.

Swill? Try the "Fightin' Cock", 103-proof nastiness in a bottle. Also, any whisky that comes in a plastic jug.

Still a fan of Jim Beam here... when I feel bourbon.

Picked up a bottle of this and wow, was really happy with the product. For about $20 a bottle, this was a steal. I'd definitely go back and pick up a few more.

Angel's Share is my affordable favorite, and I drink it slow, so it lasts a while.

And, actually, bourbon has fallen in my preferred hard liquors. It's pretty much scotch and cognac for me. Tequila, vodka, and others don't work for me.
Good call on the Evan Williams. I also enjoy that one and the price is definitely right for about $20 for a 750ml. I really enjoy scotch as well, but seems rather pricey when I look for the ones I know and enjoy. If there's any good buys out there, please...let's hear 'em. Balvenie and Glenfarclas are two of my "go to" when I have a few extra bucks to spend.
Picked up a bottle of this a few weeks ago for $27 Extremely impressed, aroma is amazing.
