Founders

Brewery Discussion by FRETWALKER

Founders has been available here in the wilds of KY for just a couple of months, and so far I've tried seven or eight of their brews. Damn, I'm impressed! The stoutest stouts on the planet, a porter that would be called a stout in any other universe, a world-class hopbomb IIPA, and I just cracked open a Curmudgeon Old Ale... Does this brewery have a weakness? I tasted a Cerise a few days ago, knowing I don't really like fruit beers, still not bad for the style (I might enjoy a bottle or two, no way I can finish a growler!) Does this brewery have a weakness?

oHIo, because it's round on both ends and HIgh in the middle? Classic Bugs Bunny/Elmer Fudd! Just got home from Party Town, still have Founders Imperial Stout and Curmudgeon Old Ale on tap, if you're bringing an empty growler or 2!

Well the Double Trouble was tasty, but nothing shocking. Not worth the coin with so many less expensive and equally hoppy choices out there.

In northern KY, Double Trouble is priced similarly to most IIPAs, a buck or two below DFH90 and Hopslam. (Pleasant surprise in the style was Schlafly Export IPA, very nice hopbomb for the buck!) Founders' strength seems to be in the malt; I'm becoming very fond of Dirty Bastard, Curmudgeon and that incredible Impy Stout!

I think I saw Black Rye earlier this year or last. Maybe irregular now but not quite retired? I love Red's Rye, too. As they are new to Reno, I've got a decent stash in the fridge...All Day and Centennial 6ers, and some random singles of Breakfast, Curmudgeon, Bastard and KBS. We didn't get any Redankulous. I'm sad about that but with kegs and a few singles of KBS hitting shelves out of season in October, I really can't complain.

[:)] Founders is still regarded and I've tried a few more of their brews. Dirty Bastard and 3 IPA's...maybe a couple more. fretwalker had two KBS's in his cellar, whereas I've never even SEEN a bottle irl. [:(] [8)] On the upside, it is after all only another beer. Not water from the Fountain Of Youth or molten 24K gold! [:D]

Founders has been seen irregularly in the Ontario market for 6-7 years now. Initially it sold out within days, now you can find KBS and CBS bottles on the shelves after a few weeks still.
