Budget Beer
General Beer Discussion by FRETWALKER
The subject comes to mind whenever I'm in a beer store, lately. The ecomony's got me pinching pennies. OK, I'll stop whining... I found Abita priced $2-$3 below my usual six-pack purchases, (and I hadn't yet rated a Louisiana beer,) so I grabbed a sixer of Jockamo IPA; it turned out to be a pretty nice brew, for the price. So, what else is good, that's below the median price?

I agree with around $1 a beer. Around here thats Full Sail, Deschutes, Bridgeport. The growler is allways in the car for that rare tap. Even though I'm poor, doesnt meen I have to drink swill.

I like the "buck a bottle" benchmark... that covers most of the readily available everyday stuff that I drink.

Must be nice to have a local place to fill a growler. I usually pick up a growler when I travel. Alabama's just gotta get with the program...

Deschutes is still my $6.99 sixer of choice. Plenty of styles to choose from too.

Of course, I can still get a 12-pk of PBR for $7.89... that's $0.66 each... I can't get a diet Mountain Dew for that! Sam Adams is about a buck-twenty-four each in a 12-pk... that ain't hateful either.

These past few weeks I've been sampling some beers that I picked up from Trader Joe's, mostly the Mission St. stuff (brewed by Firestone), Josephbrau (brewed by Gordon Biersch) and a few Shipyard items. I gotta say that so far, for either $4.99 a six-pack, or $2.99 a bomber, this is really nice stuff. GABF winning stuff? No, but still really nice. I liked the Winterfest, and the Mission St. Anniverary beer was quite suprising. And Shipyard's Applehead ale??? DAMN tasty (if you like fruit beers). Tastes like a McDonald's apple pie (if you like that kinda thing). Not a huge fan of Shipyard products, but gotta call it like I see it. Super refreshing.

Recently got some RJ Rockers Buckwheat After Dark for $4.99/6er Good beer at that price or any price.
We got a local TJ's in 2010. Agreed, nothing is spectacular, but there are lots of solid beers at great prices.
