Best rivalry in sports?

Non-Beer Discussion by CHANGEUP45

You only get one choice... who is it? My pick: Red Sox/Yankees

In Reply To #8 I'd have to say Giants/Eagles, but I'm biased. Growing up in CT, I'm an NY Giants fan. Now that I live in Philly it gets pretty rough. Luckily there is one other giants fan in my office to back me up!

It all depends on where you live and what teams you follow Red Soxs yanks sure I will go with that. In hockey I would say the Leafs and the Canadiens. In college football you could argue for many my two would be Army vs. Navy and WVU vs. Pitt. aka the backyard brawl. It is tough to go with just one.

Team sports have been mentioned so far...but how about, say, Ali vs. Frasier? I'll make that my vote; there's plenty of other one-to-one rivalries that could be mentioned tho'...

In Reply To #11 Yep, Army v Navy is a classic, second that. I grew up watching Cornhuskers v Sooners on Thanksgiving and dreamed of playing college football at Nebraska. But Joe Montana stole me away with his amazing comeback performance v Houston in the Cotton Bowl, and I became a huge fan of the Irish. My personal favorite rivalry is Notre Dame v Michigan. It's like David v Goliath and I love it when the Irish win. Matter of fact, if the Wolverines ever won you couldn't prove it by me, I only remember the times when ND wins!

Regional answer to a general question. Alabama/Auburn. This series has lost it's luster in recent years with all the b.s. going on, but I seriously doubt any region could get as rabid about a single game as the entire population of one state does about this one.

In Reply To #13 Speaking of boxing, anybody else as shocked as me about Tyson's loss last night? Sure makes the Ali v Frasier bouts look even more signifcant, historically.

In Reply To #17 I haven't read or seen anything on TV about him getting beaten, but I've gotta say, glad the criminal bastard lost. Without even seeing the highlights, I can honestly say that he wasn't beaten badly enough. I don't think I've ever seen anyone waste so much God given ability as Mike Tyson. So much talent, so much misdirection.

In Reply To #18 He did tear a knee ligament in the first round and his career may or may not be over. Seems like he got beaten pretty bad...
