Beer Discussion by DOCTOR_STU

BeerPal Notice: This topic was created for discussion of the beer AleSmith Barrel Aged Speedway Stout. I have found the "regular" sppedway stout here in Portland Oregon, but the aged is IMPOSSIBLE to find. Any suggestions?

Best thing to do is to post this in the beer trade forum (which you also did, no need to put it here) and add some beers you have for trade to your post or online inventory. You will generally have to match a deal in both approx dollars and rarity, so good luck.

The Barrel Aged is a limited release beer with random releases when the brewers feel is has aged enough for release. It is only available for purchase at the brewery when released with approximately 200 to 250 available at each release. The only other way to get a bottle of it is to trade with someone who has purchased some at the brewery. The last release for the BA Speedway was over a year ago now, so, even finding someone willing to trade away a bottle will be hard to find until the next release. The date of the next release is unknown at this time.

Consecutive 5.0's!!! I'm salivating over this beer, and per Cory's advice, will be sampling it sooner than later.

both 2009...barreled released on june 15, 2011. it was awesome...top 1% of all the beers I've ever had. I'd be lying, though, if I said I wasn't hoping for my all-time fave, which it was not.

After years of rating (and you too I'm sure), I've found that for me...I try not to compare mentally beer to beer as I'm tasting them because it's not really fair to me or the beers/brewers. As I'm enjoying the beer, I refuse to think "was this as good as Mephistopheles in '06? The body/head on this wasn't nearly as good as Kate the Great in '10." Anticipation is good, but can sometimes result in a few points less if it doesn't really blow you away. I've been guilty of that early on in my rating.

I see what you mean, but I can't help it. A perfect score, for example, should blow you away. That said, BA Speedway was one of my top 20-25 beers out of nearly 2500. Not exactly a letdown.
