Better than average dark ale. Very malty with some chocolate, a hint of vanilla, and a bit acidic. A decent value for the money, but no real bargain.

Malty and crisp. I could go with a little less fruit and a little more malt. I prefer stouts and bitters, but this is probably the best doppleback I have ever had.

Good but not great, but I prefer stouts and bitters to ales. A bit too "hoppy" and "thin" tasting for my personal taste. Could also be a bit more "malty" and less "piney".

I haven't had it in some time, so tried it again with German food at a Portland restaurant. Good, but nothing special. I'm not that familiar with dark lagers, so I can't really say how it compares to others.

Superb stout, but one must be a "stout-a-holic" like me to appreciate it. Was VERY difficult to find here in Oregon, as the vast majority of shops support Oregon beers. I would have given it a 10 if it were slightly more chocolatey. Also just a tiny bit to hoppy for my personal taste....and it's rather expensive, which also factored into my rating.
