Organizing a beer fest
Beer Events by UPSTATEDAVE
Last week after an Odd Fellows meeting one of the other lodge members and myself were talking about fund raising events. One of the ideas that we dreamed up was a brew fest. Has anyone ever organized anything like this? I know that brew fests are used by organizations like zoos for fund raising. I am sure there is a good bit of legal/insurance things involved. Our local area has a number of breweries who may be willing to do tastings. Any info, insights, warnings, would be welcome. For those of you who have not heard of Odd Fellows before its a fraternal organization who work to help out their communities in a number of ways. Besides that we have a lot of fun and appreciate beer Thanks

I've always wanted to have a beer event. A beerpal organized one. Maybe some day, once the site has matured some more and builds up a lot more members. I suppose the easiest way would be to hold it at a bar or restaurant. Somewhere that's already able to hold people and serve alcohol. But then you'd have limits of occupancy and probably have to give the owner some money.
Beer Festivals are tons of fun. I used to live in Waterloo, Ontario and the next city over has a beer festival every year. All the vendors from aroudn the area set up booths for the new beers they are testing. Great fun, although after about ten minutes in the place I wouldn't trust myslef to rate a beer. Also Waterloo has one of the best Oktoberfest celebrations outside of Germany in the world

Man, beer festivals are a lot of work. Legal issues are associated with your state, and insurance you have to pay for. The biggest problems I found are the marketing, and then the actual coordinating, topped off by day-of logistics and the associated physical labor. Not for the lazy.
